For Florida breeders, value often comes from stallions with more beneath the surface than a quick glance reveals. Public Information (Into Mischief – Ruby Lips, by Hard Spun) brings that kind of appeal, combining race-track seasoning, a strong physical and a female family that has produced runners with class, durability and range.
AT THE RACES
Bred by Town & Country Horse Farms and Pollock Farms, Public Information was offered at the prestigious 2019 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select sale. The yearling didn’t meet his $400,000 reserve, but was privately purchased by Klaravich Stables, Inc., and conditioned by Chad Brown.
Unplaced in a pair of starts as a 2-year-old, the chestnut colt needed time to mature and earned his first victory in a $40,000 maiden claiming at Aqueduct, a four-and-a-half-length romp going a mile-and-a-sixteenth on Belmont Park’s lawn that left little doubt he belonged.
Public Information followed with a win on a $40,000 claiming event at the same distance, though a disqualification placed him in fifth.
A $50,000 starter allowance score at Aqueduct confirmed he could handle better company and a three-quarter length allowance win at Sam Houston proved he could win away from New York. He closed out his career at Gulfstream Park with a victory over Gulfstream Park’s all-weather surface winning in a first condition, $25,000 optional claiming then finishing off the board in his last career start, a $55,000 overnight handicap.
He retired with four wins, three seconds and a third from 15 starts and earnings of $143,050 from three seasons on the track.
PEDIGREE
Public Information’s pedigree blends Grade 1 class, precocious speed and long-winded stamina across dirt, turf and synthetic surfaces, giving Florida breeders a deep, versatile family with proven two-turn quality.
Edisley Soler, owner of Soler & Soler Thoroughbred Corp, remarked on the athleticism and class of Public Information.
“He’s big strong horse with an excellent pedigree and really good confirmation,” Soler said. “He’s just an overall classy horse.”
Into Mischief has carved out a unique place among the greatest modern stallions. At the end of 2025, he led the North American General Sire list for seven consecutive seasons, tying the record set by Bold Ruler in the 1960s.
With 36 sons at stud in North America and several others standing around the world, Into Mischief’s legacy of a sire of sires grows yearly.
The Into Mischief – Hard Spun cross is small but promising, with 17 starters, 11 winners, three of them in stakes, including Public Information’s full sister, Gerrymander, heroine of the 2022 Mother Goose (G2) by three lengths, Extra Anejo, who won Keeneland’s Grade 3 Commonwealth; and Kiss The Girl, a multiple Listed-winning sprinter.
The Canadian-bred Ruby Lips (Hard Spun – Its a Ruby, by Rubiano) had six starts and made them count, placing in the 2012 Tempted (G3) and in the 2013 Busanda, both at Aqueduct.
As a broodmare, she has been equally productive. Among her eight foals is the aforementioned Gerrymander, and her son Lone Rock (Majestic Warrior), who brought just $55,000 as a yearling before earned $1,446,291 in 45 starts, mostly in stakes company from ages three through eight.
His 2021 campaign alone told the story: an 11 1/4 length demolition in the Grade 2 Brooklyn Stakes at a mile-and-a-half, a Grade 2 score in the mile-and-one-eighth Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, and a neck defeat in the Temperance Hill, where winner Carlos L set an Oaklawn Park track record of 2:29.87 for a mile-and-a-half that still stands.
The newest addition to the family, Public Information’s youngest half-brother Vermelho (Constitution), is already contributing to the page, breaking his maiden at this year’s Keeneland Spring meet by a length against a dozen rivals in a mile-and-an-eighth maiden special weight turf event.
Ruby Lips a half-sister to a trio of black-type earners, led by Like a Gem (Tactical Cat), a multiple stakes winner at Woodbine from a mile to a mile-and-a-quarter. She signed off in style, setting a track record of 2:03.51 in the Listed Maple Leaf and retired with $554,216 from 18 starts.
Like a Gem’s sire, Tactical Cat, is a son of Storm Cat, Into Mischief’s third tail sire, adding a layer of complementary breeding to Public Information’s pedigree.
Like a Gem’s influence extended to the next generation through a pair of stakes winners. Hard Not to Like (Hard Spun) earned $1,262,171 across multiple Grade 1 victories, none more memorable than her nose victory over eventual champion Tepin in the 2015 Grade 1 Diana, clocking nine furlongs over Saratoga’s lawn in a track-record 1:45.22.
Her full brother, Time to Travel, ran second in the 2017 Sir Barton; and their half-brother, Credit River (More Than Ready), announced himself early, winning the Ontario Racing Stakes on debut against experienced rivals. The female family’s affinity for Hard Spun and precocious speed run consistently through the generations.
Ruby Lips’ half-brother, Cool Gator (Macho Uno), showed his talent early, finishing a hard-luck head back in both the Group 3 Grey Breeders’ Cup and the Coronation Futurity on all-weather, later adding placings in the Grade 3 Skip Away at Gulfstream and the Chief Bearhart (Listed) on Woodbine’s turf, finishing his 30-start career with $299,262.
The aptly named Win and Reign (Tomahawk) brought further class to the page, taking Woodbine’s Vandal Stakes before falling a neck short of eventual Kentucky Derby presented by Yum! Brands (G1)-hero Mine That Bird in the Swynford.
The extended family reaches further still. The Florida-bred Fiery Ensign (Blue Ensign) captured the 1987 Grade 1 Young America Stakes at the Meadowlands, while a more recent family representative, Run Away and Hide (City Zip), took the Grade 3 Kentucky Stakes and the 2008 Grade 2 Saratoga Special.
Hard Spun is noted for getting solid performers. His daughters have produced 66 stakes winners, including 2017 Champion 2-Year-Old Colt, Good Magic, Alcohol Free, a four-time Group 1 winner in Great Britain, and Danon Smash, a multiple Group 1 winner in Japan.
AT STUD
Public Information currently has one foal on the track, Florida-bred Privateinformation, out of Rivercrest Road (Quality Road). The 2-year-old finished fifth in her debut on May 2, and breeder-trainer Soler noted that she got a little scared during the race but expects her to improve.
Public Information may be just getting started at stud, but he brings the right pieces to the opportunity: race-track seasoning, a useful physical and a family that has already shown it can produce runners with class, stamina and toughness. Public Information stands at Soler & Soler Thoroughbreds in Ocala for a private fee.
