HALLANDALE BEACH, FL—Robert Cotran’s Rezasrolex returned to his winning ways Friday at Gulfstream Park while scoring a decisive four-and-a-half-length victory in the Race 6 feature, an upper tier, $75,000 optional claiming for 3-year-olds and older racing five-and-a-half furlongs on synthetic.
The 5-year-old Florida-bred son of Bucchero has won 14 times in 21 career starts while coming off a two-month freshening since finishing off-the-board in the Grade 2 Shakertown on turf at Keeneland on April 4. The 1-to-5 favorite in a field of six went right to the lead under Edwin Gonzalez from his rail post position and set quarter-mile fractions of :22.50 and :45, pressed by second-choice Coppola before drawing clear through the stretch.
Rezasrolex finished in 1:02.95. Coppola held second, a half-length ahead of late-running Eamonn.
“I don’t know why, but I was nervous. Coppola is very capable on his best day and so is Eamonn,” trainer Joe Orseno said. He saddled Rezasrolex and Easmon for the Friday feature. “His last race was a tough race. We freshened him up here. You kind of think to yourself, ‘I didn’t do enough.’ But he’s a very good horse. I love the trip he got.”
Resarolex is out of Sister Charlie, by Indian Charlie and was bred in Florida by Scott Hebertson. He improved his career revenue line to $405,868.
Rezasrolex is likely to run next in the $300,000 Troy (G2), a five-furlong turf stakes, at Saratoga Aug. 9, Orseno said.
