Florida-breds Trelawny and Diciassette went at each other right from the start and maintained the fight to the finish with Trelawny winning a head-bobber under the wire in the $99,250 Bear’s Den on the Gulfstream Park synthetic Saturday. Originally scheduled for one mile on the turf, the Bear’s Den was moved to the all-weather course and contested by six 3-year-olds and older over a mile-and-70 yards.
Diciassette and jockey J.G. Torrealba got the jump out of the gate from post one but were quickly joined on their outside by Trelawny and rider Jose Morelos. Diciassette set a reasonable pace out of the turn, clocking the first quarter-mile in :24.85, then went back and forth with Trelawny to his outside through a half-mile in :50.41 as Florida-bred Enrique stalked them from third. Diciassette and Trelawny continued the fight out of the turn, brushed briefly at the top of the stretch and extended the dramatic confrontation for the entire length of the stretch. Trelawny dropped his head in front of Diciassette in the final jump to win the photo finish in a final time of 1:42.42. Florida-bred Win N Juice was two-and-three-quarter lengths behind them in third with Florida-bred Elenique completing the Sunshine State Superfecta. Senor Roberto and Florida-bred Won for Lou completed the order of finish. Knoty Knicks and Florida-bred Move Jesse Move were scratched.
Trelawny paid $5.20 to win as the 8-5 favorite.
It was the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Trelawny, who is a homebred for trainer Jose Pinchin of Pembroke Pines, Florida and Michael G. Bernard of Fairfield, Florida.
He has now won two straight after taking a first condition, $75,000 optional claiming going seven-and-a-half furlongs on the Gulfstream turf on July 5 and has two wins and a second in three starts on the synthetic course at Gulfstream. He won a first condition allowance race for Florida-breds sprinting five-and-a-half furlongs on the all-weather course on April 2 and was second to next out winner Giant Teddy two starts back in a first condition, $25,000 optional claiming over the synthetic on May 31.
A son of Uncle Chuck, Trelawny earned $57,050 to push his lifetime earnings to $134,668. He has now won four with a second and a third in 12 career starts.
Trelawny is out of the unraced Florida-bred mare Shesunbelievable, by Uncaptured. Pinchin bought Shesunbelievable for $29,000 at the 2017 Ocala Breeders’ Sales October Yearling Sale where she was consigned by Bobby Jones Equine. She has produced three foals—all winners—including Florida-bred stakes-winner Atomically, by Girvin. Also a homebred for Pinchin and Bernard, Atomically won the My Dear Girl division of the 2022 FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes.
Shesunbelievable is a half-sister to Florida-bred stakes-winner Ciaran’s Prize and has an unnamed yearling colt by Ocala Stud’s leading freshman sire Roadster. In 2026 she was bred to Gulfport, who stands at Pleasant Acres Stallions.
