Anyone doubting that equine speed is a major Florida export need look no further than Presque Isle Downs in Erie, Pa., Wednesday where Florida-breds won four of eight races including Race 5 in which Golden Soda and Truth and Honesty finished first and second respectively.
Nine Florida-breds went postward in the eight races at Presque Isle Downs with a starter from the Sunshine state in every contest except the third and the eighth.
Six SandBaggers Stables’ Little Martha won the second race with jockey Ronald Allen Jr. aboard. The 4-year-old filly won by a length-and-a-half in a $25,000 claiming race for 3-year-olds or 4-year-olds and older that have never won three races.
Little Martha is trained by Ron Potts and paid $5.40 to win and covered the mile-and-a-sixteenth on synthetic in 1:38.43.
Little Martha is by The Big Beast out of Danalin, by Curlin and was bred in Florida by Sorrento Oaks Farm Inc.
Golden Soda lived up to his 4-5 odds in winning Race 5 by a length-and-a-half ahead of Truth and Honesty in second. Golden Soda was ridden by Israel Rodriguez for trainer Ron Potts and owner Cody Potts in the $6,250 claiming for 3-year-olds or 4-year-olds and older who have never won four races.
Golden Soda is by Rainbow Heir out of Genau, by Into Mischief and was bred in Florida by Ocala Stud.
He paid $3.80 to win and finished the six furlongs on the synthetic course in 1:10.51.
Runner-up Truth and Honesty, a son of The Big Beast bred in Florida by Jim Tipps Racing LLC and Gags Racing LLC, completed the Florida-bred $2 exacta that paid $9.40.
Florida-bred Outsider took the sixth race, a $25,000 claiming for 3-year-olds and older which have never won two races. Owned and trained by Randall Russell, Outsider won by two-and-a-half lengths with Gaddiel Martinez in the saddle.
Outsider is by Outwork out of the Lion Heart mare Dr Megann and was bred in Florida by Dr. Ross Russell.
