Humor In Uniform, a filly selling Wednesday at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales October Yearling Sale as Hip 410 from Lisa McGreevy’s Abbie Road Farm consignment, has a solid catalog page by Ocala Stud first crop sire Colonel Liam, out of the stake-placed mare You’re Kidding, by Lemon Drop Kid.

What does not show up in the black type on her page is her half-brother, Good Humor Man, a stakes winner in Russia. Florida-bred Good Humor Man is a 5-year-old son of Good Samaritan with a record of 12 wins and seven seconds in 19 starts with earnings of π3,731,450 (US$44,777) while racing at Kazan International Equestrian Complex in Tatarstan, a republic of Russia located in Eastern Europe.

Bred by Wendy Lee Christ of Ocala, Fla., Florida-bred Good Humor Man sold for $12,000 to Moya Racing at the 2021 OBS Winter Mixed Sale when consigned by Kelli Mitchell. He then was purchased by AVK Bloodstock for $15,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling. He currently is owned in Russia by Akbarov Rinat and trained by Sirgazhin Linar.

“He has been a model of consistency through all three racing seasons,” Christ said.

Good Humor Man broke his maiden on Aug. 5, 2022, followed by a second in a Prestige race, viewed as an allowance-to-stakes level race in Russia. He has posted wins in the nation’s leading Group 1 (Rus) races including the Zilant and Nasibov Cup. He won the Anillina, Hero of the Soviet Union, and Tatspirtprom JSC Jockey Club, all Russian Group 2 races.

His disappointing loss came on closing day Aug. 30, in the π1,235,000 (US$14,820) Republic of Tatarstan Prestige where he finished a hard-fought second going 2400 meters. According to Alena Akimova, an expert on horse racing at Kazan, his race record places him as one of the leading colts in Russia over synthetic.

Built in 1995 for the development of horse breeding, Kazan Hippodrome is considered the highest-level complex in Russia. The history of the Kazan racetrack dates back to 1868, when the first horse races were held next to the Kaban Lakes.

Kazan Hippodrome is owned by Tatspirtprom JSC, the largest alcohol company in the Russian Federation, producer of one of the nation’s top-rated vodkas.

The multi-purpose facility is set up in zones. The sports zone has indoor arena seating for 4,000 people and an outdoor arena for 2,000 people. The hippodrome stand holds 6,000 spectators and consists of an 1800-meter racetrack, with an infield 1600 meter running track, to host horse races and track meets. The training center consists of a hippodrome field, an arena for professional riding sports and a riding school. There is also a show jumping arena and two dressage fields.

The economic zone houses stud farms and private horse owners. It features stables, a veterinary clinic, a horse reception center, a winter swimming pool, feed storage, carpentry, blacksmith, and saddlery workshops. The park area provides a riding school, horse rentals, and pony rides. The play zone is an extensive network of restaurants, cafes, bars, the tote system, a horse racing museum, and promotions for development of the equestrian industry.
