A colt by freshman sire Yaupon was purchased by trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. for $300,000 Tuesday to top the first day of the two-day Ocala Breeders’ Sales June sale of 2-year-olds in training and horses of racing age.

“If I like them, I buy them and then I worry about selling them after,” Joseph said. “I had seen this horse in March and obviously, he worked fast there. He came back and duplicated it and for me, if he can duplicate that time, that means you’re pretty good.”

Tuesday action saw an increase in gross sales and averages as 220 juveniles sold for $9,673,500 compared to the first day of the June Sale last year when 212 head generated $8,004,000.
