Filly Earns $10,000 FTBOA Top 3 Florida-bred Bonus
BY BROCK SHERIDAN
Win N Your In shot through an opening on the rail coming out of the far turn then drew off to a nearly five-length victory in the $95,000 Sharp Susan at Gulfstream Park Saturday, giving Ocala Stud freshman sire Win Win Win his first stakes winner. The six-furlong Sharp Susan featured a half dozen 2-year-old fillies going six furlongs and the purse included a $20,000 Top 3 bonus for Florida-breds presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.
Florida-bred Wiggle An’ Wine started fastest of all from the inside post one and was quickly a length in front of the Florida-bred trio of Vuela Paloma, Thee New Beginning and Win N Your In as they came out of the six-furlong chute.
Wiggle An’ Wine continued to lead by a length through a quarter mile in :22.29 with Vuela Paloma second as Win N Your In raced behind those two in third in the one path.
Around the turn, jockey Miguel Vasquez sent Win N Your In towards Wiggle An’ Wine and found a seem on the rail inside the five-sixteenths pole. She went to the front with a little more than a quarter mile to the finish and opened up by four lengths in the stretch. She was never challenged by Wiggle An’ Wine and Florida-bred Bee A Queen, who battled for second.
Win N Your In won by four-and-three-quarter lengths ahead of Wiggle An’ Wine with Bee A Queen another two lengths back in third. Florida-bred Valiant Kiss ran on late to get fourth followed by Florida-bred Thee New Beginning and Vuela Paloma. Brenna was scratched.
Win N Your In paid $3 to win as the 1-2 favorite.
Trained by Carlos David for Troy Johnson and Maritza Weston, Win N Your In earned $54,550 including the $10,000 FTBOA Florida-bred bonus. She has now won two of three starts while banking $87,950. She finished third behind winner You Need Me in her first lifetime start while facing Florida-bred maiden special weight fillies going four-and-a-half furlongs at Gulfstream on June 6. She improved in her second start to dominate under the same conditions while going an additional furlong on July 6, winning by seven-and-a-half lengths.
“She really delivered today. I didn’t want her on the lead. I told Miguel, ‘There are horses in the race with speed. Let them go to the lead and sit in the pocket,’” trainer Carlos David said. “I was a little worried coming into the turn. He really didn’t have much room, and he kind of forced her. They nicked her a little bit on the knee, but it’s not a big deal. It’s just superficial. Once she got through the hole, I saw him drop his hands and she was just cruising.”
Johnson purchased Win N Your In for $12,000 as a yearling at the 2023 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Winter Mixed Sale where she was consigned by Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck’s Summerfield.
“Basically I owe Charlie Weston everything for this filly,” Johnson said. “He’s the bloodstock agent and buys everything for me and our groups. The guy is unreal. His track record for the horses he has found for me is unbelievable. I gotta give credit where credit is due and I gotta give Charlie all of the credit.
“[Weston] found her at the OBS Winter Mixed Sale. He gave me a call and said he had a new sire that he liked, Win Win Win. Nice filly. She was built the proper way. Nice hip big shoulder and thought she would be a racehorse and got a bargan buy for $12,000. He raised her for us over there, grew up and some racing luck came along with her.
As long as everything goes well, we are shooting for the [FTBOA Florida Sire Stakes] Desert Vixen. Hopefully, we can get Miguel [Vasquez] back up. He fits her well and rides her well.
“That Florida Sire [Stakes] series is very lucrative and we’re very fortunate to even be in it or have a shot at it.”
