Florida-bred Tipsy Mojo makes his first career start against a highly regarded stablemate in a $45,000 maiden special weight for 2-year-olds racing four-and-a-half-furlongs at Monmouth Park Monday. Tipsy Mojo and 6-5 morning line favorite Regent’s Park, a $1.4 million yearling purchase at the 2025 Fasig-Tipton New York Saratoga Select Yearling Sale, are both trained by Jorge Delgado, the leading trainer at Monmouth last year.
“They’re both ready,” Delgado said. “They both have a really good foundation. They’ve been pretty much the same in the mornings. They’ve been working together for a while now.
“I’ve been waiting for what seems like a long time for some of these 2-year-olds. So I’m very excited and trying not to get too anxious. We have other horses racing over the weekend so that will keep my mind on other things. But I’m very excited.”
A homebred for Charles and Paula Cosgrove of Wadsworth, Ohio in the name of their Lea Farms, Tipsy Mojo has three works over the Monmouth Park surface, the last a three-furlong breeze from the gate in :37 flat. It was the third fastest of 16 last Saturday. Regent’s Park had the bullet work that morning, clocking the distance in :36.60 from the gate.
Tipsy Mojo also went three furlongs in :37.20 from the gate on May 10, tenth fastest of 26 works at the distance. Regent’s Park clocked the same time from the gate that morning.
“The two of them have worked together quite a bit,” Delgado said. “Regent’s Park has been a little better in the breezes. But they have stayed together. [Tipsy Mojo] is not far off (Regent’s Park) in the mornings. But the only way you know for sure is when they get to the races.”
Tipsy Mojo is by freshman sire Mind Control out of the winning Uncle Mo mare Slightly Tipsy. Slightly Tipsy has two winners from four starters and six foals including an unnamed Florida-bred yearling filly by Florida-bred graded stakes-winner Lightening Larry.
Tipsy Mojo has post four in the field of five and will be ridden by Jose Gomez. They are 3-1 on the morning line.
Regent’s Park breaks from the rail with Paco Lopez in the irons and is the program favorite at 6-5.
“The plan is for them to break their maiden at Monmouth Park and then go to Saratoga for the graded 2-year-old stakes,” Delgado said. Delgado also saddles Audible Johnny, who is 3-1 on the morning line from post two and will be ridden by Sonny Leon.
Other 2-year-olds making their debuts here are It’s Prime Time with jockey Ramon Moya and apprentice Christian Maragh has the call and the five-pound weight allowance on Vintage Wiz. It’s Prime Time and Vintage Wiz are both trained by Anthony Margotta.
