2000 – Florida-bred and future millionaire Western Pride breaks his maiden in his sixth career start at Calder Race Course under jockey Abdiel Toribio.

Trained throughout his career by James Chapman for owners Carolyn Chapman and Theresa McArthur, Western Pride would go on to win several graded stakes including the Grade 2 Ohio Derby at Thistledown and Grade 3 Calder Derby as a 3-year-old in 2001. He would later win the Grade 2 San Fernando Breeders’ Cup in 2002 and Grade 3 San Bernandino Handicap in 2003, both at Santa Anita Park.

By Way West (Fr) out of Strongerthanpride, by Proud Birdie, Western Pride was bred in Florida by C. Bowling and C. Thompson and would retire in 2004 with earnings of $1,289,929.
