OCALA, FL—A total of 32 horses who are graduates of Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company auctions were entered in the 41st edition of the Breeders’ Cup World Championships being held Nov. 1-2 at Del Mar in California.

The impact and quality of the OBS Two-Year-Old sales is particularly on display during Future Stars Friday with 16 sales graduates among the entries. A total of five OBS graduates are entered in the 10-horse field for the $2 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) including Grade 1-winners Chancer McPatrick and Gaming, Grade 1-placed Ferocious, and Japan-based Shin Believe and Ecoro Azel.

“I think this year has been quite remarkable with how well the graduates have done in the major races for 2-year-olds,” said trainer and bloodstock agent John Kimmel, who, along with Nick Sallusto, purchased Chancer McPatrick for $725,000 at the 2024 OBS Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. “I’ve been a fan of the 2-year-old sales since I started training horses. You get to see horses breezing, you get to see what their gait is like, how they’re handling the demands of breezing and how they’re holding up over another eight months of maturity. I just think the additional information is so valuable.”

More than two dozen OBS graduates have prevailed in Breeders’ Cup races since the inception of the World Championships in 1984. Last year’s Breeders’ Cup saw OBS graduate White Abarrio annex the $6 million Classic (G1) en route to becoming a finalist for Horse of the Year honors.

Other notable OBS graduates who have won Breeders’ Cup races include Hall of Famer and Florida-bred Skip Away (1997 Classic), Horse of the Year Favorite Trick (1997 Juvenile), champions Stormy Liberal (2017-18 Turf Sprint) and Midnight Lute (2007-08 Sprint) as well as Stephanie’s Kitten (2011 Juvenile Fillies Turf; 2015 Filly & Mare Turf), and Goldencents (2013-14 Dirt Mile).
