The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association hosted UF/IFAS Extension 4-H youth development program participants on June 11 as part of a summer equine day camp.

The FTBOA’s Elaine Ansbacher gave a history tour of the Florida Thoroughbred Museum and Tammy Gantt gave a presentation about equine careers, why the area is Horse Capital of the World® and what to expect at the upcoming Ocala Breeders Sales June Sale of Two Year Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age.

Since none of the students had been to a public Thoroughbred auction before, Gantt provided a tour of the OBS facility.

Marion County extension agent Katie Davis planned the day which also included a morning visit to the Thoroughbred farm of Bobby and Lori Jones followed by a visit to World Equestrian Center to observe a horse show.

Davis said the program was the first equine day camp the 4-H program has held this summer is looking forward to planning a larger event in the future.
