A chestnut filly by Curlin dropped the gavel at $975,000 Wednesday at Ocala Breeders Sales Company to set an OBS June sale record. Gus King purchased the filly, Hip 850, out of the Caliente Thoroughbreds as agent consignment. The filly is out of the Tapit mare Mufajaah, winner of the Grade 3 Bayakoa, and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Mejthaam. Mufajaah has produced two winners from three starters and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Aunt Kat. The filly worked an eighth mile in :10 flat at the under tack show last week and was a $200,000 purchase by Happy Farm last year at the Fasig-Tipton October yearling sale

 

 

The previous record for an OBS June 2-year-old was $900,000 for a Into Mischief filly, Clivetty that went to OXO Equine LLC in 2017. The filly was consigned by Top Line Sales LLC.

The average price for the 259 horses sold Wednesday escalated 66% to $59,052 from $35,568 on the corresponding day last year. Wednesday action sold 259 head for $15,294,500 compared to 205 selling for $7,291,400 in 2024—an increase of 109.7%. The median was $25,000, a 25% increase from $20,000 on the second day last year.

Cumulative totals were nearly as impressive with the average price of $51,107 compared to the $36,379 average during last year’s June Sale—an increase of 40.5%. The gross amount on 500 head increased to $25,553,500 compared to 606 selling for $22,045,800 during last year’s June auction. The median was $25,000 compared to $20,000 last year. 

MyRacehorse purchased Hip 857 for $525,000 from the Randy Miles as agent consignment. The gray or roan filly is by Gun Runner out of the Grade 1 Darley Alcibiades-winning mare Restless Rider, by Distorted Humor. Also from the family of multiple Grade 2-winner Private Vow, the filly worked a furlong in :10 flat at the breeze show.

Bloodstock agent Gary Young purchased Hip 572, a colt by Bolt d’Oro for $425,000 out of Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables consignment. The bay colt is out of Missile Belle, by Smart Strike, a half-sister to stakes-placed Fashion Code. The colt worked an eighth mile in :9.80 at the under tack program and was an $85,000 purchase as a yearling at the 2024 Keeneland September Sale where Red Wings bought him.

Hip 471 was purchased by trainer George Weaver as agent for $375,000. The bay colt clocked at :10 flat furlong at the breeze show from the consignment of Steven Venosa’s S G V Thoroughbreds LLC as agent. He is by Into Mischief out of the stakes-winning Kafwain mare Kadira and is a half-brother to Grade 1 Test-winner Paola Queen. Paola Queen has produced two winners from two starters with three her progeny selling for seven figures.

Hip 563 sold for $350,000 to Frank Fletcher Racing Operations LLC after working an eighth mile in :9.80. The bay colt is by Practical Joke out of Midnight Girl, by Drosselmeyer, a half-sister to Grade 1 Acorn-winner Midnight Lucky and stakes-placed Songofthecity. Consigned by de Meric Sales as agent, the colt was purchased last year by Golden Star Farm for $150,000 at the Fasig-Tipton July sale of yearlings.

Hip 654 is a daughter of Bolt d’Oro out of Platonic Love, by Elusive Quality. Platonic Love has produced three winners from four starters and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Dixie Love. Sold for $325,000 to Legion Bloodstock as agent, the bay filly was consigned by Woodside Ranch as agent and breezed a furlong in :9.80 at the under tack show. She did not sell during the OBS March Sale but sold last year for $160,000 to de Meric Sales at the Keeneland September sale of yearlings.

Hip 734 sold for $310,000 to Jeff Kresnak from the de Meric Sales consignment after working a furlong in :10 flat at the breeze show. The bay colt is by Maclean’s Music out of Sengekontacket, by Mineshaft, a full sister to stakes-winner Wolf Man Rocket and a half-sister to stakes-winner Honey Lake and graded stakes-placed, stakes-producer Clear Pond. De Meric purchased the colt for $125,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton October sale of yearlings.

Bill Childs went to $300,000 to get Hip 512, a bay colt by freshman sire Modernist out of Lila Ruth, by Sidney’s Candy. Consigned by Omar Ramirez Bloodstock as agent, the colt is from the family multiple Grade 1-winner Win and worked a furlong in :9.80 at the under tack program. He was initially an $11,000 purchase by Edy Gonzalez at the 2023 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale.

Hip 804 went for $290,000 to MyRacehorse and Croley Equine. The dark bay or brown filly is from the first crop by Independence Hall out of Stirred by Shakin It Up. Consigned by Julie Davies LLC as agent, the filly is from the family of Grade 3-placed The Truth and K G and worked an eighth mile in :10 flat at the breeze show.

Machine Gun, a son of Liam’s Map, sold for $285,000 as Hip 577 from the Adios Amigos consignment. West Point Thoroughbreds, Lane’s End Bloodstock and David Ingordo purchased the bay colt, who is out of the multiple graded stakes winner Mistical Plan, who took the Grade 1 Princess Rooney. Mistical Plan has seven winners from eight starters including stakes-winner Patriot Plan and worked an eighth mile in :9.80 at the under tack show.

The leading consignor as de Meric Sales with gross revenues of $1,494,000 from 14 juveniles sold. Wavertree Stables Inc. was a close second with 13 head bringing $1,453,000 while Omar Ramirez sold 24 juveniles for $1,305,500.

Gus King was the leading buyer with his lone purchase of the record filly for $975,000 while Taproot Bloodstock as agent bought nine Thoroughbreds for $822,000.

The next sale on the OBS calendar is the October Yearling Sale scheduled for Oct. 7-8.
