OCALA, FL—As the 2025 2-year-old sale season comes to an end at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company, buyers have one last opportunity to take home a runner this year.

The OBS June Two-Year-Olds in Training and Horses of Racing Age sale takes place on June 17-18. The 873 entries include 83 horses that were supplemented to the sale. In addition, three horses of racing age were entered.

“I think what we’ve seen in trends at the sales this year will hold through for the June sale. It’s been a very good 2-year-old season and we’re looking to end on a high note,” OBS Director of Sales Tod Wojciechowski said.

“It’s not only been a good season in the sales ring, but at the racetrack, too. From April 30 to June 1, we’ve had 10 maiden special weight winners that were sold at this year’s OBS 2-year-old sales. The horses that come from the 2-year-old sales are just proving over and over again that they’re quality horses,” Wojciechowski said, noting that OBS sale grads had a great showing during Belmont Stakes week.

On Belmont day, Raging Torrent captured the Grade 1 Hill ‘N’ Dale Metropolitan Handicap for owners Yuesheng Zhang and Craig Dado, defeating a tough field that included champion Fierceness. Raging Torrent was a $75,000 purchase by Mark Davis out of the Randy Bradshaw consignment at the 2023 OBS Spring sale in April. Trained by Doug O’Neill, the 4-year-old colt by Maximus Mischief is now a multiple graded winner of $1,797,400, having won seven of 14 starts to date.

The same week, 2025 OBS grad Sassy C W won the $145,500 Astoria during the Belmont Stakes Racing Festival at Saratoga Race Course.

Owned by Patricia’s Hope LLC and Carolyn Wilson and trained by Larry Rivelli, Sassy C W was purchased by Carolyn Wilson for $375,000 out of the Top Line Sales consignment at this year’s OBS March sale. Becoming the first stakes winner for her sire, the Yaupon filly has won both her starts this year and has earnings of $124,500.

Among Florida-bred graduates of this year’s OBS March sale were Chasing My Dream, a son of Ocala Stud’s Win Win Win who was an impressive maiden special weight winner at Gulfstream Park on June 6 for Champion Equine LLC and trainer J. Braddy. Chasing My Dream was a $180,000 purchase by Narvick International out of the Ocala Stud consignment.

This year’s June sale includes juveniles by all of the top 10 leading sires by progeny earnings in 2024, including Into Mischief, Candy Ride (Arg), Gun Runner, Curlin, Practical Joke, Constitution, Vekoma, Nyquist, Medaglia d’Oro and Not This Time.

Four of the top five leading Florida sires by 2024 progeny earnings—Ocala Stud’s Khozan and Adios Charlie; Neolithic, who stands at Pleasant Acres Stallions; and Bridlewood Farm’s Valiant Minister—are also represented by 2-year-olds in the sale.

Pleasant Acres Stallions’ Leinster, who currently leads the North America among first crop sires, is also represented.

At the 2024 June sale, Tom McCrocklin was leading consignor, selling 15 head for a total of $1,201,500. His consignment included two fillies who tied for sale topper honors.

“It’s a game of opinions; everybody likes something different. They both turned out to be nice fillies,” McCrocklin said. “You can buy a really good horse at the June sale.”

Bill Childs bought the $400,000 Tiz the Law filly out of Southern Silence. Now named Silent Law, the Baffert trainee broke her maiden in her first start last September and then won the Anoakia Stakes at Santa Anita in October for owner CSLR Racing Partners LLC. Silent Law has been on the board in all five starts, including a second-place finish in the Fasig-Tipton Santa Anita Oaks (G2) and now has earnings of $151,460.

McCrocklin also sold co-sales-topper Brown Sugar, a Twirling Candy filly out of Cashmere who was purchased by Resolute Bloodstock for $400,000. Trained by Brad Cox, Brown Sugar now has earnings of $48,800, having hit the board in each of her four starts. The filly, who races for N Theory Racing, broke her maiden May 29 winning a maiden special weight at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

McCrocklin keeps up with all the horses he sells and follows their race careers.

“We sold Sandman here last year in March,” McCrocklin said of the Tapit colt who won the Arkansas Derby (G1) before running in the first two Triple Crown races, including a game third-place finish in the Preakness Stakes (G1) won by Journalism

Sandman sold to West Point Thoroughbreds/D.J. Stable/CJ Stable for $1,200,000 out of McCrocklin’s consignment in the 2024 OBS March sale. The Mark Casse-trainee is now a graded-stakes winner of $1,474,595.

“Not only do I want to sell horses for significant money, but I want to sell good racehorses that go on to validate our program and give buyers confidence to buy more horses from us. Our horses are reflection of the work we do. It’s not like we just a cash a check and move on to the next one,” said McCrocklin, who trains at the old Hartley-de Renzo farm north of Ocala.

After some scratches and owners who decided to race instead of sell, his June consignment features six horses. A regular consignor at OBS 2-year-old sales for many years, McCrocklin ranked third among all North American 2-year-old consignors in 2024.

“The nice thing about June is that you have a big broad group of horses. Word has it that there are some very nice horses that have been added as supplements to this sale,” long-time OBS consignor Lynne Boutte said.

At the 2024 OBS June Sale, Boutte Sales was among the top five consignors, selling 20 head for a total of $671,700. Last June, Boutte Sales was the top consignor of horses of racing age, selling the four highest-priced horses in that category, including 3-year-old filly Fantomah for $135,000 and 3-year-old colt Constitutionreview for $90,000.

This June, Chris and Lynne Boutte will be at the sale shopping for clients instead of selling.

“We chose to sit out the 2-year-old sales this year. We had a barn full of training horses and are excited for those 2-year-olds hitting the track, but we didn’t present any at the sales this year,” Boutte said, adding that they will have consignments at the OBS yearling sale in October and in January 2026.

Sessions start at 10 a.m. EST both days, with Hips 1 – 386, plus supplemental entries 387 – 430, selling on Tuesday, June 17. The sale concludes on Wednesday, June 18, with Hips 451 – 833, along with supplements 834 – 873, going through the ring, followed by the horses of racing age.
