Florida-bred Jasper Robusto won the ¥51,000,000 (US$346,800) Hakusan Daishoten Stakes (Jpn-Grade 3) at Kanazawa Racecourse Tuesday. Ridden by Genki Maruyama for trainer Hideyuki Mori, the 3-year-old son of Ocala Stud’s leading sire Khozan earned ¥30,000,000 (US$204,000) for owner Kazuo Kato.
The Hakusan Daishoten featured a field of a dozen 3-year-olds and older going a mile-and-two-furlongs-and-97-yards (about a mile-and-five-sixteenths).
Jasper Robusto started evenly from post one then sprinted to the front to lead by several lengths heading into the right-handed turn. He maintained his clear margin into the stretch and was a length in front of Deep Reborn (Jpn) in second under the wire. Kazu Tanja (Jpn) was third and the final time was 2:10.80.
It was the third stakes win this year for the 4-year-old Jasper Robusto after winning the BSN Sho at Niigata Racecourse on Aug. 23 and the Tsurugajo at Fukushima on June 29.
Jasper Robusto has now improved his record to six wins and five seconds in 12 starts with earnings of $904,185 according to Equibase.
He is a two-time graduate of Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company. He was purchased by Blas Perez Stables for $27,000 out of Richard Kent’s Kaizen Sales at the 2022 OBS October Yearling Sale. Mori bought him for $265,000 out of the Blas Perez Stables consignment at the 2023 OBS March Sale.
Jasper Robusto is out of stakes-winning Florida-bred mare Prize Informant, by Marciano and was bred in Florida by Ashley Godwin’s Rivermont Farm in Ocala. Prize Informant has four winners from four starters and five foals including the unraced 2-year-old colt, King Morpheus, by Ocala Stud stallion Win Win Win and owned by Morplay Racing. Jasper Robusto is her only stakes winner.
Rivermont Farm purchased Prize Informant in foal to Bridlewood Farm stallion Valiant Minister for $9,500 at the 2019 OBS Winter Mixed Sale.
