Kenneth Ramsey’s Boyhood Dream put a nose in front of fellow Florida-bred King Cousin B to top a Florida-bred trifecta that included third-place finisher Vermont, in Friday’s second race at Gulfstream Park, a maiden special weight for 2-year-olds going five furlongs on the all-weather course. Completing the order of finish were Kentucky-breds Ready to Rage and Raging Menace. Never a Doubt and Renegade Jo were scratched.
Trained by Nolan Ramsey and ridden to victory by Samy Camacho, Boyhood Dream led at every pole with a length advantage on Vermont in second through a quick opening quarter in :22.03. The dark bay or brown son of Uncle Chuck opened up by two lengths in the stretch before King Cousin B and jockey Leonel Reyes mounted their rally only to just miss at the wire. Vermont was six-and-a-quarter lengths back in third and the final time was :57.64.
Boyhood Dream paid $5.40 to win.
Bred in Florida by Haras Dona Icha de Ocala, Boyhood Dream is out of Cactus Kitten, by Kitten’s Joy, a half-sister to Webslinger, who in 2023 won the American Turf presented by BMW (Grade 2) at Churchill Downs and was multiple Grade 1-placed. Nolan Ramsey purchased Boyhood Dream for $20,000 out of the Blue River Bloodstock consignment at this year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale of 2-year-olds in training.
