MARCH 8, 1992—Fran Gilardi’s Spectacular Sue and jockey Wigberto Ramos won the only stakes race of the filly’s short career with four-and-a-half length victory in the Grade 2 Bonnie Miss at Gulfstream Park.

Longshot Florida-bred Tricky Cinderella and jockey David Penna went to the front from the outside post six in the mile-and-a-sixteenth Bonnie Miss with Spectacular Sue and Florida-bred Spinning Round in a joint second close by.

Tricky Cinderella kept a half-length lead advantage through fractions of :23.42 and :46.85 before Spectacular Sue challenged for the lead around far turn with Spinning Round also a threat.

Spectacular Sue took over coming out of the turn and was two lengths clear of Spinning Round past the furlong marker as Tricky Cinderella dropped into third.

Spectacular Sue drew off to win in 1:44.14 with Spinning Round two-and-a-half lengths in front of Tricky Cinderella in third. Miss Legality was fourth followed by even-money favorite November Snow. Deputation was eased in the stretch and did not finish.

Trained by Bill Kaplan for Ione and H. J. Elkins, Spectacular Sue next started in the Listed Ta Wee at Calder on April 19 as the 8-5 favorite, but finished last of eight in the final race of her career.

By Spectacular Bid out of In Concert, by Riverman, Spectacular Sue was bred in Florida by A. N. Winick and E. Sarant and G. Sarant. She retired with four wins from nine starts with two seconds and a third and earnings of $169,000.

As a broodmare, Spectacular Sue produced three winners from four starters and nine foals including Sayaka, by A.P. Indy, winner of the 1998 Flower Cup in Japan. Sayaka also produced Peisha Q (Jpn), a stakes-placed runner in Japan.
