Ron the Greek Won Sunshine Millions Classic

2013 – After finishing fourth in the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Classic (Grade 1) won by Fort Larned, Florida-bred Ron the Greek returned to Florida to dominate the Sunshine Million Classic at Gulfstream Park—winning by 11 ¼ lengths.

Trained by Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott for Brous Stable, Wachtel Stable and breeder Jack T. Hammer, Ron the Greek and jockey Jose Lezcano run away with the $400,000 Sunshine Million Classic at 3-1 odds, defeating Cash Rules in second with Fort Loudon third.

Later in the year, Ron the Greek would win the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup before embarking on a graded stakes-winning career at King Abdulaziz Race Course in Saudi Arabia.

By Full Mandate out of the Florida-bred mare Flambe’, by Fortunate Prospect, Ron the Greek retired at the beginning of 2016 with earnings of $2,769,557 from 14 wins, five of which were in graded stakes, six seconds and four thirds.
