Big Drama Wins the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector at Gulfstream Park

2011 – Making his first start of 2011 after winning the Grade 1 Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs in November of 2010, Florida-bred Big Drama set a new Gulfstream Park track record for six furlongs in 1:08.12 with a four-length victory in the Grade 3 Mr. Prospector on Jan. 15.
The record still stands today.
Ridden by Eibar Coa and trained by David Fawkes, Big Drama led from start to finish as the 1-2 favorite in the Mr. Prospector, defeating runner-up Custom for Carlos in second with Our Edge another 13 lengths back in third.
A day later at the Fountainbleau Hotel in Miami, Big Drama would be honored with an Eclipse Award as the Champion Male Sprinter of 2010.
Owned and bred by Harold Queen, Big Drama was by Montbrook out of Riveting Drama, by Notebook and made two more starts after the Mr. Prospector, winning the $75,000 Whippleton at Calder on Sept. 4 and finishing seventh in the Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs on Nov. 11.
Big Drama retired with $2,746,060 in career earnings from 11 wins, four seconds and a third in 19 starts.
