1990 – Happy Birthday to Florida-bred millionaire and multiple graded stakes-winner Proper Reality, who was born for owner and breeder Mrs. James A. Winn on this day in 1985.
By In Reality out of Proper Princess, by Nodouble, Proper Reality won the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby and Grade 2 Illinois Derby during his 3-year-old campaign that also included a fourth-place finish in the 1988 Kentucky Derby.
Trained throughout his career by Robert Holthus, Proper Reality also won the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap at Belmont Park and the Grade 1 Philip H. Iselin Handicap at Monmouth Park.
Proper Reality retired after winning 10 of 19 career races with three seconds and a third while earning $1,701,650.
