Tampa Bay Downs officials have posted on their social media accounts that Barn 25 and Barn 26 located in their stable area have been placed under quarantine due to a horse testing positive for Equine Herpesvirus. The social media post did not specify the virus type.
The post said 24-hour health certificates will be required starting Friday for any horse entering the Tampa Bay Downs stable area and that all horses must have their temperatures taken twice daily and that temperature logs are now required on each horse.
The track also announced temporary training hours with specific training for horses stabled in barns 25 and 26 set for 9:16 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. The track opens for all other horses at 5:30 a.m. until a break between 8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m. All other horses can then train from 8:31 a.m. until 9:15 a.m.
The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association will update this information as it becomes available from the track or the Equine Disease Communication Center.
