Winterhawk Farm’s 8-year-old Florida-bred Spirited Sol, who won his first career stakes in the Karl Boyes at Presque Isle Downs on July 3, has now scored in two stakes in just over two months after rallying to win the $151,200 Da Hoss at odds of 25-1 at Colonial Downs Monday. With regular rider Martina Rojas up, Spirited Sol ran down Souper Quest in deep stretch to top a Florida-bred exacta in the field of six 3-year-olds and older going five-and-a-half furlongs on the grass.

Spirited Sol paid $53.20 to win and the $1 exacta return $178.90.

Spirited Sol earned a $4,000 Export Incentive by winning the non-graded stakes outside Florida, paid by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association to breeder Tag Stables.

Last of six and a little more than six lengths off leader Souper Quest after a :22.53 first quarter mile, Spirited Sol came with a rush between horses in the stretch to win by a length-and-a-quarter in 1:01.67. Souper Quest was a nose ahead of Creed’s Vision in third with Governor Sam, Two Seven O and Florida-bred Louie the Sun King completing the order of finish. Alogon, Determined Kingdom, Eamonn, Petcoff, The Minkster and Florida-bred Victory Achieved were scratched.

Since taking the six-furlong, $99,000 Karl Boyes by three lengths on synthetic, the Kimberly DePasquale-trained Spirited Sol was third in the $95,000 Wolf Hill taken off the turf at Monmouth on July 18. He then won an upper tier, $62,500 optional claiming going six furlongs on the Presque Isle synthetic on July 28 and last out was third in a restricted, $100,000 overnight handicap going five-and-a-half furlongs at Colonial on August 15.

The gelded son of Soldat has now won seven of 36 career starts with 10 seconds and eight thirds with earnings of $396,048.

He is out of the unraced Stormy Atlantic mare Spirited Storm, who has produced six winners from as many starters and eight foals. Spirited Sol is a half-brother to graded stakes-winning Florida-bred Spirited Boss, by Street Boss; graded stakes-placed Florida-bred Uncaptured Spirit, by Uncaptured; and multiple graded-stakes-placed Florida-bred Uncaptured Storm, by Uncaptured.

Spirited Storm has an unnamed yearling colt by Frosted and an unnamed weanling colt by More Than Looks, both bred in Florida by Tag Stables. She was bred to First Mission in 2026.
