Rock N Roll Bolt tries to extend his current win streak to three Wednesday night at Turfway Park when the Florida-bred gelding steps up in a second level $40,000 optional claiming at six-and-a-half-furlongs on synthetic. Trained by Jose Camejo for Hoye Racing Stables and Howard Samauels, Rock N Roll Bolt is one of ten 3-year-olds and older chasing the winner’s share of the $104,000 purse in the eighth and featured race.
A victory by Rock N Roll Bolt would also earn breeder Craig L. Wheeler of Reddick, Florida $3,000 in Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association Export Incentives.
Rock N Roll Bolt broke his maiden in October of 2024 at Horseshoe Indianapolis but went winless in his next 10 stats with a second and four thirds. He broke through in a non-winners of two, $30,000 claiming going a mile on the grass at Fair Grounds in December, winning by three-and-a-quarter lengths while leading from start to finish. He repeated that effort in his only race this year, taking a first condition, $25,000 optional claiming going six-and-a-half furlongs on synthetic at Turfway on Feb. 19. Again, he led at every pole, this time winning with a four-and-a-half-length margin with Edgar Morales aboard.
Rock N Roll Bolt has won three of 28 career races with five seconds and nine thirds with earnings of $174,547. He is by Bolt d’Oro out of Florida-bred mare Blakely’s Smile, by Wildcat Heir, selling for $85,000 as a yearling at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale. He did not meet his reserve at the 2023 Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale of 2-year-olds in training.
Morales has the return mount Wednesday and they have drawn post six. Rock N Roll Bolt is 6-1 on the morning line.
The Great Oz makes just his second start for trainer Joe Sharp and exits a second to GT Five Hundred last out under these conditions at six-and-a-half furlongs at Turfway on January 7.
The Great Oz has won three of his last five and half of his last eight races including two consecutive first condition, $32,000 optional claiming races going seven furlongs on Woodbine’s synthetic main track in October and November.
The Great Oz will be ridden by Rafael Hernandez from post four and is the 3-1 program favorite.
Completing the field are Eye Witness and jockey Dylan Machado, Walter Rodriguez has the call on Zambezi, Surf City will have Gerardo Corrales up, Smoken Boy will be ridden by Fernando De La Cruz, Luan Machado will guide Mo Quality, Dr. Saikali has Luis Contreras named to ride, Xarel Forde takes the reins on Coco Cool and Victor Carrasco will be in the saddle on Brodeur.
