1943-2025

Richard Robert Root, 82, died on Monday, August 25, 2025. Those who knew Richard knew he was a fighter, the last of a dying breed of men who embodied integrity, strength, and resolve. Richard was a third-generation horseman and thoroughbred trainer. Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Heide Root; son, Richard Ryan Root (Dana Root); granddaughters Rene and Mia Root; and loving nephew, Thomas Root, III. 

At Richard’s request, no memorial service will be held. In honor of Richard’s love for animals, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to a thoroughbred horse rescue of your choosing or the Suwannee County Animal Shelter.
