For many years, the Race Track Chaplaincy of America White Horse Award has recognized extraordinary and heroic acts of courage, compassion and heroism within the horse racing community. The RTCA has announced that nominations for this year’s WHA award are officially open.
Every racing community has individuals whose actions leave a lasting impact. Sometimes it’s a dramatic act performed in a moment of crisis. Other times, it’s someone who consistently goes above and beyond in service to others.
Characteristics considered for the award include:
- A person who demonstrated exceptional courage and heroism on behalf of human or horse
- A groom, trainer, or track employee who served others selflessly
- A person who saw a need and whose actions positively impacted their racing community
Examples of recent RTCA White Horse Award recipients include:
- 2025 WHA Winners: Chino Gudino, Luis Gudino, and Doug Adams
- 2024 WHA Winner: Bo Butler
- 2023 WHA Winner: David Pope
