Fresh off an assertive introduction on July 31 at Delaware Park, Florida-bred juvenile colt Snowhomish returns quickly for Saturday’s $75,000 Dover Stakes at the same track. A homebred for Paula and Charles Cosgrove’s Lea Farms, Snowhomish has post five in the field of six 2-year-olds going three-quarters of a mile on the main track.
A victory by the Jorge Delgado-trained Snowhomish would also earn Lea Farms as breeder a $4,000 Export Incentive for the out-of-state victory at this level administered by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association.
Ridden in his first race by Carlos Rojas against $30,000 maiden claiming 2-year-olds going five-and-a-half furlongs, Snowhomish raced four-wide around the turn then kicked clear at the top of the stretch to win with ease by eight-and-a-half lengths. He earned a respectable 71 Beyer Speed Figure that day which is tops in Saturday’s Dover.
Snowhomish is by Rock Your World out of Pocket Book, by Into Mischief and earned $14,400 for the win.
Rojas will again be aboard for the Dover.
Trainer E. Owens Jr. will saddle Sea Devil, a four-length winner of five-furlong maiden special weight for state-breds in his second career start at Monmouth Park on July 5. The gelded son of Sea Wizard was second to City Streaker in his first race, a four-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight at Monmouth Park on June 7.
Sea Devil has earned $43,430 for owner Holly Crest Farm and will be ridden from post two by Cipriano Gil.
Seven’s Nitro, who won a $35,000 maiden claiming going five furlongs at Laurel Park on June 20 in his only race, has been entered by trainer Gary Capuano and owner Non Stop Stable.
The grey or roan son of Blofeld will be ridden from post three by Emanuel Rosario.
Rounding out the field are Lucky Siete with no rider named at press time, Tatters with jockey Julio Hernandez, and Mi Corazoncito with Cipriano Gil also named to ride. Mi Corazoncito is crossed entered in maiden special weight at Colonial Downs on Sunday.
