A number of accomplished Florida-bred fillies and mares will face open company Sunday at Gulfstream Park in the $75,000 My Pal Chrisy Overnight Handicap including graded stakes-winner Maryquitecontrary and stakes-winners Beth’s Dream and Charlie’s Wish. A field of seven are set to go one mile in the My Pal Chrisy and the purse includes a $5,000 win bonus for Florida-breds presented by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owner’s Association.
A winner of the Grade 3 Inside Information at Gulfstream Park in January of last year, Maryquitecontrary makes her first start since finishing fifth in the Grade 1 Resolute Racing Madison won by Alva Starr going seven furlongs at Keeneland on April 6. In two other starts this year, the 5-year-old daughter of Double Diamond Farm’s First Dude was third in both the Grade 3 Inside Information won by Olivia Darling over seven furlongs on Jan. 27 and to Honor D Lady in the Grade 3 Royal Delta at a mile-and-a-sixteenth on Feb. 17, both at Gulfstream.
Maryquitecontrary is a homebred for Rodney G. Lundock and is trained by Eddie Plesa Jr. She has won seven of 15 career starts with three seconds and two thirds with a field-high bankroll of $655,492.
She is 5-2 on the morning line and Edgard Zayas will rider from post two.
Beth’s Dream looks to extend her winning streak to three after taking an upper level $62,500 optional claiming on March 17 and the Mo’ Green overnight handicap on April 27, both going a mile at Gulfstream Park.
Trained by Victor Barboza Jr. for breeders Virginia and James E. Gamble, Beth’s Dream won the $100,000 Heavenly Cause at Laurel Park in April of last year.
Beth’s Dream is by Jess’s Dream out of Gator Brew, by Milwaukee Brew and has won half of her 14 career starts with two seconds and two thirds with revenues of $345,117.
She is the even-money favorite and will depart post five with jockey Emisael Jaramillo.
Charlie’s Wish is another daughter of First Dude who counts among her black-type victories the $110,000 Pleasant Acres Stallions Distaff Turf at Tampa Bay Downs on March 24. She also won the $100,000 Azalea going seven furlongs at Gulfstream in July of last year.
Charlie’s Wish is trained by David Fawkes for Royalight Racing LLC and was bred in Florida by Three Gin Guys Stable. She has four wins, five seconds and three thirds with a $300,149 career bankroll.
She is 9-2 on the morning line and Miguel Vasquez will ride.
