Florida-bred Pacific Princess, a homebred for trainer Roger Laurin, made a late run to narrowly win a $25,000 optional claiming at Gulfstream Park Sunday and earn her third consecutive victory.
The 5-year-old daughter of Prospective out of Concert Country, by Concerto raced mid-pack early in the one-mile test for fillies and mares, went four-wide around the far turn and drifted out to the middle of the course in the run for home.
Despite the wide trip, Pacific Princess kept on to win by a nose ahead of Florida-bred Atomically in second with Florida-bred I Believe in Magic just another nose back in third. The final time on the fast track was 1:38.24.
Miss Ucrania, Hihellohowareyou, Cami Runner, Seduction and Silvia V’s Heroes completed the order of finish.
Ridden by Angel Morales, Pacific Princess paid $11 to win. The all Florida-bred, 50¢ trifecta paid $54.75.
A 4-year-old filly, Pacific Princess started her win streak Aug. 27 in a $12,000 starter allowance, $20,000 optional claiming going seven furlongs at Gulfstream on Aug. 27. She then won a first-level, $20,000 optional claiming at the same distance over a good track on Sept. 10.
Pacific Princess has now won eight of 21 career starts with three seconds and three thirds while banking $182,795.
