Two-time Kentucky Derby winning trainer Doug O’Neill purchased two Florida-breds during Session 5 of the Keeneland September Yearling Sale Saturday, both consigned by Moreau Bloodstock International as agent and bred by Craig L. Wheeler, including a son of Maclean’s Music for $150,000. The 12-Session Keeneland September Yearling Sale will run through Saturday, Sept. 23.

Selling as Hip 1437, the bay colt is out of the multiple stakes-placed Florida-bred mare R True Talent, by Yes It’s True and is from the family of graded stakes-placed, stakes-winner Miss L Attack.

O’Neill went to $50,000 to acquire Hip 1134, a Florida-bred filly by first crop sire Tiz the Law, a multiple Grade 1 winner of the Belmont Stakes, Travers, Curlin Florida Derby and Champagne. The chestnut filly is out of the Florida-bred mare Wildaboutshopping, by the late leading Florida sire Wildcat Heir and is a half-sister to stakes-placed Affable.

Keeneland sold 285 yearlings Saturday for $46,697,000, which was 7.98% below the gross of $50,747,500 from the corresponding session last year when 287 horses sold. The average of $163,849 was 7.34% below $176,821 in 2022, and the median of $130,000 declined 7.14% from $140,000.

Hip 1283 – a Florida-bred colt by Authentic – Judit Seipert

Hip 1283, a Florida-bred colt from the first crop by Horse of the Year and Grade 1 Kentucky Derby presented by Woodford Reserve and Grade 1 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic-winner Authentic went to Tom McCrocklin on a final bid of $130,000. Also consigned by Moreau Bloodstock International Inc. as agent, the colt is out of Honour Isabel, by Honour and Glory and is a half-brother to Grade 1-placed Pretty Boy Flash. Craig Wheeler Thoroughbreds also bred this colt.

Also selling for $50,000 was Hip 1471, who went to West Bloodstock as agent for Repole Stable. The Florida-bred filly is by Vino Rosso out of Somerset, by Quality Road and was consigned by Lane’s End as agent. Somerset is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed, stakes-winner Star Harbour, stakes-placed Lemon Point and stakes-producer Harbouring. The filly was bred by Peter Vegso’s Vegso Racing Stable.
