ARCADIA, CA—Arcangelo, the top-rated horse in the official Grade 1 Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic rankings, arrived at Santa Anita Wednesday evening. The winner of the Grade 1 Belmont, Grade 1 Travers and Grade 3 Peter Pan in his last three starts was bright and alert Thursday morning.

Trained by Jena Antonucci of Ocala, Fla., Arcangelo has a record of four wins and a second in six starts with earnings of $1,754,900. The Arrogate ridgling hasn’t lost since his second start in a maiden special weight at Gulfstream Park in January.

Antonucci started Arcangelo at the HorseOlogy training and rehabilitation operation she operates with business partner Katie Miranda at GoldMark Farm in Ocala.

Also on Thursday, Classic contender White Abarrio jogged over the Santa Anita main track. Trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., the Grade 1 Whitney winner last worked on Sept. 20 at Santa Anita. As for when he’ll return to the tab, assistant Chip Dutrow said Thursday morning “we’ll let him tell us.”

White Abarrio is a two-time graduate of Ocala Breeders’ Sales having first sold for $7,500 to Jose Ordonez at the 2020 Winter Mixed Sale where he was consigned by Francis and Barbara Vanlangendonck’s Summerfield. He then was consigned by Nice and Easy Thoroughbreds at the 2021 OBS March Sale where Carlos L. Perez purchased him for $40,000.

In other Breeders’ Cup news, four horses on the grounds trained by Steve Asmussen—Echo Zulu, Clairiere, Gunite and Society—all tack walked, according to assistant Scott Blasi.
