A bay colt by Nyquist led Thursday action at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Spring Sale as Donato Lanni went to $550,000 to make the purchase for Amr Zedan’s Zedan Racing Stable.

On the day, 145 head generated gross sales of $14,952,000 for an average of $103,117 and a median of $65,000. The average for the third session last year was $124,886 from 167 head selling for $20,856,000. The median price on the third day last year was $60,000.

Cataloged as Hip 891 from the consignment of Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stables Inc. as agent, the top selling colt is out of Acoma, by Empire Maker, the multiple graded stakes-winner of the Grade 1 Juddmont Spinster. Acoma is a half-sister to Group 2-winner Festival of Light, Grade 1-winner Arch, stakes-winner Alisios, stakes-placed and graded stakes-producer Aztec Pearl and Grade 1-producer Antics. The colt worked an eighth mile in :10 flat during last week’s under tack show.

Woodford Thoroughbreds purchased Hip 643 for $450,000 from the consignment of de Meric Sales as agent. The gray or roan filly is by Bolt d’Oro out of Sky o’ Blue, by Henny Hughes and is from the family of Grade 1 placed, Grade 2-winner Night In Reno. The filly worked an eighth mile in :10 flat at the under tack show.

Hip 717 sold for $400,000 to trainer Cherie DeVaux as agent. Consigned by Grassroots Training & Sales LLC, the dark bay or brown colt is from the first crop by Preakness (G1) and Maker’s Mark Mile (G1)-winner War of Will. He is out of the stakes-placed mare Sunday Sonnet, by Any Given Saturday, a half-sister to multiple Grade 3-winner Pianist. The colt worked an eighth-mile in :10 flat at the under tack session.

Hips 613, 637, 787 and 886 all sold for $350,000 Thursday.

John C. Kimmel as an agent for Nedlaw Stables selected Hip 613, a daughter of Munnings out of the stakes-winning mare Sheriffa, by Posse, a full-sister to stakes-placed, stakes-producer Might Be. Sheriffa is a half-sister to stakes-winner Tiergan. The chestnut filly went an eighth mile in :10 flat at the under tack session.

Justin Casse as agent purchased Hip 637 from the consignment of Ciaran Dunne’s Wavertree Stable, Inc. as agent. The dark bay or brown filly is by Omaha Beach out of Sister Margaret, by Pulpit and is from the family of stakes-winners Dr. Disco and Dance Gal Dance. She worked a furlong in :9.80 at the breeze show.

Taproot Bloodstock as agent put in the final bid on Hip 638 a chestnut colt by Maclean’s Music out of Six Ornaments, by Flatter, a half-sister to multiple graded stakes-winner Eldaafer, stakes-winner and graded stakes-producer Muhaawara and stakes-placed Tazkeya. She went an eighth mile in :9.80 at the under tack program.

Hip 886 went to Lael Stable out of the Grassroots Training & Sales LLC consignment. By Army Mule out of Zooey, by Exchange Rate, the chestnut colt is a half-brother to stakes-placed Droppin G’s and worked an eight mile in :10 flat. Zooey is a half-sister to stakes-placed runners Samiam and Night At the Opera. 

The leading consignor on the day was de Meric Sales with 14 head selling for $2,039,000. Wavertree was the second leading consignor, selling nine 2-year-olds for $1,486,000

Donati Lanni as agent for Zedan Racing Stable led all buyers with his lone purchase for $550,000. Klarvich Stable Inc. was the second leading buyer after selecting three head for $490,000

The OBS Spring Sale concludes Friday with Hips 907-1208 selling. The auction begins at 10:30 a.m.
