Nesso’s Lastharrah, who was fifth while making his stakes debut in the Grade 2 Eddie D last time out, returns to black-type company Saturday for the $80,000 Lure at Santa Anita Park. Trained by Peter Eurton for Mark D. and Patricia L. Cofer Trust, the Florida-bred colt is among seven 3-year-olds and older who have never won a stakes and are entered to go a mile on the grass.

Making just his third start of the year in the Eddie D, Nesso’s Lastharrah and jockey Hector Berrios were a close-up fourth at the top of the stretch but flattened out in the stretch to finish four lengths behind winning Florida-bred Reef Runner

Nesso’s Lastharrah made his first start for Eurton in July in a second condition, $80,000 optional claiming at Los Alamitos Race Course after returning off an 11-month layoff. He and Berrios had a short lead mid-stretch but finished second to next-out winner See Through It going six-and-a-half furlongs on the dirt.

Going a mile on the turf under the same conditions for his next race on Aug. 15 at Del Mar, the 4-year-old colt won by three-quarters of length, again with Berrios aboard.

Nesso’s Lastharrah has a consistent record of five wins, five seconds and a third in 15 starts while earning $235,420. He is by Sharp Azteca out of Nesso, by Roman Ruler and was bred in Florida by Amaty Racing Stables.

Berrios gets the return mount on Nesso’s Lastharrah, who is the second choice on the morning line at 3-1. They will start from the outside post seven.

Starting on the opposite end from post one is 5-2 morning line favorite St Anthony for trainer Neil Drysdale.

The 6-year-old gelding returns to Southern California from Kentucky Downs where he was most recently sixth behind winner Epic Ride in the Grade 3 FanDuel TV Mint Millions Invitational going a mile on the grass. Two starts back on Aug. 9 at Del Mar, he had returned off a three-and-a-half-month layoff to finish fifth, three lengths behind winner Final Boss in an upper tier, $100,000 optional claiming going a mile on the grass.

St Anthony looks for his first win in 10 starts since winning the $114,000 Oceanport (Listed) at Monmouth Park in August of 2024.

He has six wins and a third in 26 career starts with earnings of $367,856 for owner and breeder Alice Bamford.

Juan Hernandez will ride St. Anthony.

Also set for the Lure are Mystic Spirit and jockey Tyler Baze, Watsonville with Antonio Fresu in the irons, Umberto Rispoli has the call on Endlessly, Goliad will be ridden by Kazushi Kimura and Mike Smith will take the reins on Sumter.
