Arindel’s graded stakes winning-homebred Mythical looks for her second victory in the lucrative Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association Florida Sire Stakes Saturday in the $300,000 My Dear Girl for 2-year-old fillies by registered Florida stallions. A field of six have entered to go a mile-and-a-sixteenth in the third and final leg of the series with Mythical the expected heavy favorite.
Trained by Jorge Delgado and ridden throughout her five-race career by Emisael Jaramillo, Mythical trounced her rivals in $200,000 Susan’s Girl at Gulfstream on Oct. 18, winning the seven-furlong second leg of the Florida Sire Stakes by 12 ¾ lengths as the odds-on favorite.
Drama, a 45-1 longshot in the Susan’s Girl, sprinted off to a clear lead down the backstretch while Mythical raced on the outside in fourth from two lengths back. Jaramillo allowed Mythical to go on the attack while three-wide around the turn with Love Like Lucy also making a move from between horses. With little effort, Mythical turned for home three lengths in front and was six lengths clear midstretch. She cruised under the wire in a stake-record time of 1:22.95, eclipsing the previous standard of 1:23.05 set by Princess Secret in the 2020 Susan’s Girl.
Mythical has four wins to her credit, including a three-and-a-quarter-length score in the six-and-a-half-furlong Adirondack (Grade 3) at Saratoga Race Course in her third start on Aug. 3. She was also the first filly since Florida-bred Rosie O’Greta to win the Tremont (Listed) when she defeated the boys by three-and-a-half lengths at Saratoga on June 5.
The bay daughter of St Patrick’s Day broke won on debut at Gulfstream Park in April, winning a four-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight for fillies by eight-and-a-half lengths.
Mythical is out of Lailoni, by Arindel’s stallion Brethren and has racked up $360,750 in her five races.
Jaramillo will again be aboard Mythical, who has drawn post three.
Love Like Lucy, who was second to Mythical in the Susan’s Girl, returns to take her on again Saturday.
Trained by Saffie Joseph Jr. for MyRacehorse Thoroughbred Acquisiton Group LLC and Miller Racing LLC, Love Like Lucy will be the only filly to race in all three legs of the filly divison of the Florida Sire Stakes this year after finishing third in Lennilu’s Desert Vixen going six furlongs on Sept. 6.
Love Like Lucy won a six-furlong maiden special weight for Florida-bred fillies in her first start on Aug. 8.
She is out of Just Like Lucy, by Majesticperfection and was bred in Florida by the late Brereton C. Jones. She has earned $86,800 in her three starts.
MyRacehorse and Saffie Joseph Jr. bought Love Like Lucy out of the Navas Equine consignment at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Spring Sale for $300,000.
Edgard Zayas has ridden Love Like Lucy in all three starts and will be in the saddle again. They will depart post four.
Rounding out the field are Win Bet Only, who will be ridden by Edwin Gonzalez; Lady Chance and jockey Jose Leon, Bayou Brigid has Luca Panici named to ride and Rajiv Maragh has the call on Dare Greatly.
