My Miss Mo looks to snap a string of two runner-up finishes in graded stakes and fellow Florida-bred Majestic Lucia attempts to extend a two-race win streak in Friday’s Grade 2 George E. Mitchell Black-Eyed Susan, a mile-and-one-eighth test for ten 3-year-old fillies at Laurel Park.

In addition to running for the winner’s share of the $300,000 purse, My Miss Mo and Majestic Lucia will vie for a $5,000 Export Incentive paid to their breeder by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association should they win the out-of-state race at this level.

Scratched by trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. out of the Longines Kentucky Oaks (G1) at Churchill Downs run May 1, My Miss Mo runs for the first times since finishing second to Prom Queen after setting the pace in the mile-and-a-sixteenth Gulfstream Park Oaks presented by City National Bank (G2) on March 28. In her only other race this year, the bay daughter of Uncle Mo was second to She Be Smooth in the Grade 2 Davona Dale going a mile at Gulfstream on on February 28.

Owned by Rich Averill’s Averill Racing based in Bradenton, Florida; Tristan de Meric of Ocala, Florida and the Mathis Racing Stable of Bill and Terry Mathis of Oklahoma City, My Miss Mo has won one of five starts with three seconds and earnings of $148,030. In her second career start, she won a seven-furlong maiden special weight for Florida-bred fillies at Gulfstream in November.

Averill Racing and Mathis Racing purchased My Miss Mo out of the de Meric Sales consignment for $320,000 at last year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale of 2-year-olds in training. She is out of the winning Florida-bred mare In a Dream, by Quality Road and was bred in Florida by Valerie Mastromonaco, Tristan de Meric and Uncle Mo Syndicate.

My Miss Mo has been labeled as the co-second choice on the morning line for the Black-Eyed Susan with 7-2 odds. She will be ridden by Tyler Gaffalione from the outside post 10.
