Fresh off a nearly 12-length trouncing of her rivals in the CAN$50,250 Debutante at Assiniboia Downs on August 4, Florida-bred My Kid’s Said No returns to Iowa for Friday night’s $100,000 Prairie Meadows Debutante, a six-furlong contest for 2-year-old fillies.
Trained by Tena Birdwell for Joseph A. Schumer, My Kid’s Said No also runs for a $4,000 Export Incentive with a victory. The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association pays Export Incentives to breeders of Florida-breds winners of allowance, allowance optional claiming and stakes run outside Florida this year via the program that is capped at $1 million.
A winner of two of her three career starts, My Kid’s Said No suffered her lone defeat at Prairie Meadows when third in the $128,000 Prairie Gold Lassie going five-and-a-half furlongs on July 10. My Kid’s Said No took a clear advantage in midstretch after leading from the start, but could not hold off winner Wild Vekoma and runner-up Cardio Cat. My Kid’s Said No will have another chance at Wild Vekoma Friday.
In one race since, My Kid’s Said No was a runaway winner of the five-furlong Debutante, leading those six fillies from the first jump out of the gate. She also dominated Florida-bred maiden fillies at Gulfstream Park in May, winning her introduction race by nearly 11 lengths, producing a 66 Beyer Speed Figure that is tops among the 13 fillies entered for Friday. The 63 Beyer earned in the Debutante at Assiniboia equals the Beyer number given to Wild Vekoma in the Prairie Gold Lassie.
My Kid’s Said No is by Omaha Beach out of stakes-winning mare Under Serviced, by Hook and Ladder and was bred in Florida by Helen and Joseph Barbazon of Morriston. She has earned $70,784 in her three starts. She was a $70,000 purchase by Schumer at this year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale where she was consigned by Sergio Centeno’s Blue River Bloodstock.
Rated as the 4-1 second choice on the morning line, My Kid’s Said No will break from post 10 and Marcos Meneses will ride her for the first time since they teamed up for the Gulfstream victory.
Wild Vekoma puts her unbeaten record on the line as she has not raced since the Prairie Gold Lassie.
The bay daughter of Vekoma trained by Logan Ashford is undefeated in a pair of starts, including a victory in her first start, a five-furlong maiden special weight for Iowa-bred fillies which she won by two lengths at Prairie Meadows on June 20.
Wild Vekoma is the 5-2 morning line favorite as she looks to add to a $119,400 bankroll earned for owner Jim Jorgensen.
Alfredo Triana Jr. gets the return mount from post four.
Trainer John Ortiz ships in with Downforce, a three-and-three-quarters-lengths winner of her only start, a maiden special weight for fillies run over five furlongs on the grass at Horseshoe Indianapolis on July 8.
A grey or roan daughter of Ocala Stud’s white-hot freshman sire Roadster, Downforce earned $19,200 for her lone victory for Dream Big Racing LLC.
Downforce is 5-1 in the program and will be guided from post two by Ramon Vazquez.
Rounding out the field are Rory’s Run with Walter De La Cruz in the saddle, Elvin Gonzalez takes the call on Enticing Hottie, Cappuccino Cafe will have jockey Israel Hernandez, Minny for the Max has Ken Tohill named to ride, Alex Birzer takes the reins on Three Two Flu, Cruisin in Harmony will be captained by Victor Lara, First Cowgirl will have Jose Riquelme up and Summer Pauly has the assignment on C C’s Gift.
