Joseph A. Michael’s Florida-bred Ms. Jay Dee Em upset a $125,804 maiden special weight at Kentucky Downs Wednesday, paying $193.40 on a $5 win ticket. Trained by Michael Maker and ridden to victory by Ricardo Santana Jr., the 3-year-old daughter of Bridlewood Farm stallion Tunwoo won by a neck in a field of 12 fillies and mares, 3-years-old and older racing six-and-a-half furlongs on the undulating turf course.

Ms. Jay Dee Em broke well from post six and went for the lead before settling back on the rail into the sweeping far turn. She maintained a ground saving trip two lengths behind frontrunners Sutura and Ralley to Me through a :45.56 half-mile before tipping out to the four path turning for home. Rally to Me was a clear leader at the quarter pole being chased by Sutura in second with Ms. Jay Dee Em still several lengths back third on the outside. Ms. Jay Dee Em suddenly pounced on Sutara at the sixteenth pole and get the narrow victory in 1:16.55 on the firm turf. Sutura was second, two-and-quarter lengths faster than Rules and Regs in third with Rally to Me fourth.

Ms. Jay Dee Em earned $51,000 for the victory plus a $3,000 Export Incentive for breeder Susan Chu of North Andover, Massachusettes in the name of her Baoma Corp. Capped at $1 million in 2026, Export Incentives are paid by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association for victories in maiden special weight, allowance, allowance optional claiming and stakes run outside Florida.

Ms. Jay Dee Em is out of Jade Dee, by Congrats and was purchased by Joseph Anthony Michael for $4,000 out Beth Bayer’s consignment at the 2024 Ocala Breeders’ Sales October Yearling Sale.

Sixth in a maiden special weight for fillies on the Horseshoe Indianapolis turf on August 4, Ms. Jay Dee Em has now earned $51,320 in two races.
