Second in last year’s Regret Stakes at Monmouth Park when owned and trained by Diane Morici, Florida-bred Ms. Bucchero returns for this year’s edition while making her second start for trainer Mark Casse and owner Gary Barber. Eleven fillies and mares, 3-years-old and older, are set to go six furlongs in the $100,000 Regret.
A winner of 10 of 21 career starts with four seconds, Ms. Bucchero had won half of her 18 starts for Morici, including the $99,000 Willa On The Move and $100,000 What a Summer in consecutive starts in November of 2024 and January of 2025 respectively at Laurel Park; and the $125,000 Sugar Swirl (Listed) at Gulfstream Park in December of 2025. In her last race for Morici, she stumbled at the start of the $120,000 Minaret at Gulfstream on February 7 and finished fifth behind Florida-bred millionaire Mystic Lake.
A 6-year-old daughter of Bucchero, Ms. Bucchero was a $230,000 purchase by Deputy at the 2026 Fasig-Tipton Digital Sale in March and since has one start for Casse and Barber. She finished fourth after pressing the pace in the Grade 3 Whimsical going six furlongs on the synthetic main track at Woodbine on May 2.
Ms. Bucchero did not meet her reserve at the 2022 Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale of 2-year-olds in training but has since racked up $468,647. She is out of Give Glory to God, by Mutakddim and was bred in Florida by Pamela Edel. Edel stands to get a $4,000 Export Incentive Check from the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association if Ms. Bucchero takes the Regret Saturday.
Ms. Bucchero will be ridden from post four by Irad Ortiz Jr. and is listed at 4-1 on the morning line.
Trainer George Arnold II saddles Kilwin for her first start of the year in the Regret.
The 4-year-old daughter of Twirling Candy won last year’s Test (G1) going seven furlongs at Saratoga Race Course on August 2 after taking the $175,000 Leslie’s Lady at Churchill Downs in June. She had one start after the Test, finishing eighth of 12 in the Grade 2 Music City going six-and-a-half furlongs on the Kentucky Downs turf on September 6. In 2024 as a 2-year-old, Kilwin had won the $998,000 Untappable at the same distance on the Kentucky Downs turf.
Kilwin has earned $1,105,858 for owner BBN Racing from four wins and a second in eight starts.
She is the 2-1 morning line favorite and will be guided from post nine by Edgar Morales.
