Lord Eddard Stark, a Florida-bred stakes winner of the two-mile H. Allen Jerkens Handicap (Listed) on the Gulfstream turf in 2024 at odds of 60-1, was humanely euthanized Monday at Masstaden Farm, in Reddick, Florida.

The 8-year-old gelding raced for John Rowe and was the first horse bred by his son Michael John Rowe, both of Reddick, Florida. He was foaled on March 4, 2018 at Masstaden Farm.

Trained throughout his career by Joe Orseno, Lord Eddard Stark last raced at Gulfstream on August 24 were he was pulled up by jockey Leonel Reyes and did not finish. Although he walked off the track, he suffered an leg injury and later underwent surgery in Ocala. He was recovering at Masstaden Farm, but subsequently had several setbacks during his recovery, forcing the difficult decision by the Rowes.

Lord Eddard Stark was a gray or roan son of He’s Had Enough and was the first foal out of the Macho Uno mare Rough Winter. He earned $255,189 from five wins, four seconds and five thirds in 36 starts.

“RIP to Mike’s first foal who was so special and loved by all who came in touch with him,” John Rowe expressed.
