A colt by Gun Runner consigned by Eddie Woods as agent breezed a :9.60 eighth-mile Saturday for the fastest time at the distance on the third and final day of the under tack programs for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale. Hip 654 is a gray or roan colt out of the winning Liam’s Map mare Tynan, a half-sister to Grade 2-winning Florida-bred Pappacap and Grade 3-winning Florida-bred Boppy O.

 

“He’s a nice horse. He’s always been very straightforward. He stepped right up and did his job today,” Woods said of the colt. “He’s very well made, he’s very balanced looking, and he’s a Gun Runner. They just run.”

There were 14 2-year-olds that produced :9.80 furlongs during Saturday’s under tack show.

Two juveniles worked a quarter mile in :20.40 Saturday including Hip 601, by freshman sire Charlatan and from the consignment of Hartley / DeRenzo Thoroughbreds LLC as agent. The bay filly is out of the Grade 1-placed mare Sweet Shirley Mae, by Broken Vow and is a half-sister to stakes-winner Mae Never No (Ire). Sweet Shirley Mae is a half-sister to stakes-placed I Remember Mama and graded stakes-producer Chaotic Cat.

Hip 619 also went a quarter mile in :20.40 for consignor Halcyon Hammock Farm as agent. The bay filly is by Aurelius Maximus out of the stakes-winning mare Thievery, by Valid Expectations. Thievery is a full sister to stakes-winners Big Texas Daddy and Namesake, stakes-placed Gyrate and stakes-producer Clamorous Clarissa.

Five 2-year-olds produced quarter-mile works in :20.60 including Hip 764, a Florida-bred colt by Ocala Stud stallion Adios Charlie. Consigned by Ocala Stud, the bay colt is out of the unraced Florida-bred mare Baby Sister, by Uncaptured. Baby Sister is a half-sister to multiple Grade 3-winning Florida-bred Shane’s Girlfriend.

 

The OBS March Sale will run three days next week, Tuesday through Thursday with each session beginning at 11:00 a.m. EDT. Hips 1 – 272 sell Tuesday, Hips 273 – 544 are schedule to go through the auction ring Wednesday and Hips 545 – 814 sell Thursday. OBS auctions are also free and open to the public.
