Florida-bred Good Long Cry saved ground around the turn behind leaders then tipped out in the stretch to get past Marketplaceofideas and win the first race at Belmont Park Friday, a second condition, $80,000 optional claiming for fillies and mares going a mile on the turf.
Owned by Black Type Thoroughbreds and Swinbank Stables, Good Long Cry earned the $59,400 winner’s share of the $108,000 purse plus a $3,000 Export Incentive paid by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association to breeder Migdaly’s Serra’s Sabana Farm located in Ocala, Florida.
Good Long Cry and jockey Jose Lezcano were shuffled back behind the Chad Brown-trained stablemates Marketplaceofideas (GB) and 9-5 favorite Growth Trajectory, who were heads apart through a leisurely :24.06 first quarter mile. Marketplaceofideas turned away Growth Trajectory turning for home and shut off the inside, forcing Good Long Cry into the two path to make her run. Good Long Cry took over passing the eighth pole then withstood a late rally by Getting Serious to her outside, winning by a neck in 1:33.96 on the firm turf. Getting Serious was a length-and-three-quarters faster than Marketplaceofideas in third followed by Growth Trajectory, La Ceiba (Fr) and Stillthinkingofyou.
Good Long Cry paid $8.16 to win as the 3-1 second choice in the wagering.
Trained by George Weaver, Good Long Cry was making her third start of 2026.
She finished last year with victories in an allowance race at The Meadowlands in September and in an $80,000 claiming at Churchill Downs in November, both at a mile-and-a-sixteenth on the grass before getting a eight-month break.
She returned July 25 going a mile-and-a-sixteenth on the Ellis Park grass, finishing fourth in a $62,500 optional claiming then on September 3 was second going a mile on the turf at Kentucky Downs in a $80,000 optional claiming.
Good Long Cry has now earned $293,731 from four wins, five seconds and two thirds in 16 starts. She is a 4-year-old daughter of Long On Value out of High Cry, by Street Cry (Ire).
She was a $53,000 purchase by bloodstock agent Maddie Mattmiller at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling Sale in July of 2023.
