Owned and trained by Mary Lightner and bred in Florida by her Shooting Star Thoroughbreds, Godfidence went by longshot Prince of Peace in deep stretch to win a $85,525 maiden special weight for 2-year-olds at Colonial Downs Friday. Ridden by Rajiv Maragh, Godfidence was the best of six going six furlongs.

Prince of Peace was quickest to start from the outside gate as Godfindence started well from post two to chase from a length-and-a-half back in second. In tight on the rail with Off to Repair and The Gabe Digger to his outside, Godfidence emerged to take second alone in the turn and chase Prince of Peace from two lengths back after a :22.28 quarter-mile split. Prince of Peace was still two-and-a-half-lengths in front in deep stretch before Godfidence chased him down in the final sixteenth to win by a length-and-a-half in a final time of 1:33.44 on the fast main track. Prince of Peace was second with The Gabe Digger another six lengths farther back in third.

Godfidence paid $4.20 to win as the even-money favorite.

Third behind winning Florida-bred Watson first time out in a five-furlong maiden special weight at Gulfstream on June 13, Godfidence earned $52,500 plus a $3,000 Export Incentive for the maiden special weight score outside Florida. The Export Incentive goes to Shooting Star Thoroughbreds as breeder and is paid by the Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association. Godfidence has career earnings of $60,200.

Godfidence is by Chance It out of the Graeme Hall mare Crumb, winner of the 2012 Joe O’Farrell Juvenile at Calder Race Course and a half-sister to stakes-winning Florida-bred Cher Ami.

He is the seventh foal produced by Crumb, who has five winners from seven starters including stakes-placed runners Dreamster, by Jess’s Dream; and Candycrumbs, by Bridlewood Farm stallion Valiant Minister. Her first foal, Crumb Bun, by Afleet Alex, earned $312,400. She also has an unnamed yearling full sister to Godfidence.
