A pair of Florida-breds look to make their mark in Friday allowance races at Oaklawn Park, with newly gelded Global Legend stepping up in a mile test for juveniles and four-year-old Classic Car Wash returning in a competitive sprint.
Global Legend, a dark bay son of Global Campaign, enters race seven, a $130,000 allowance optional claiming, off a sixth-place finish in Keeneland allowance company. Bred by Dominique Damico and racing for KEM Stables, he broke his maiden by a widening three lengths at Gulfstream Park in June. His campaign includes starts in the Grade 2 Saratoga Special and the listed Sapling Stakes at Monmouth Park where he finished second. The $80,000 OBS Winter Mixed Sale purchase, who RNA’d for $50,000 at OBS March, makes his first start since being gelded. Nik Juarez rides for trainer Mark Casse at morning line odds of 20-1.
The one-mile juvenile test features morning line favorite Calling Card (2-1), who exits a Churchill Downs maiden victory, along with stablemate Sandman (3-1), also trained by Casse, a $1.2 million OBS March purchase by leading sire Tapit. Sandman broke his maiden at Saratoga in August before finishing third in the Grade 3 Street Sense at Churchill Downs.
Two races later, Florida-bred Classic Car Wash takes on seven rivals in race nine, a $131,000 allowance optional claiming sprint. The four-year-old chestnut gelding by Noble Bird, bred by Sherry R. Mansfield & Kenneth H. Davis, campaigns for Gary Barber and trainer Mark Casse. A $105,000 OBS March purchase, he’s earned over $230,000 with notable performances including a third in the Grade 3 Sam F. Davis Stakes at Tampa Bay Downs. Ramon Vazquez rides the 4-1 shot.
Chiringo heads the morning line at 2-1 in race nine, returning from a layoff since winning back-to-back allowance races at Oaklawn in April and May.
