Frank Carl Calabrese, founder of FCL Graphics and owner of FCC Stables, passed away on his 96th birthday, Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at his home in Park Ridge, Ill. Known for his entrepreneurial drive, love of horse racing, and attention to detail, Frank leaves behind a legacy marked by success and personality.

Frank is survived by his oldest son Frank Calabrese; son Carmen Calabrese, daughter-in-law Jane, grandchildren Nicole (Paul) Tenorio, Sam (Liz) Calabrese, and Matt (Addie) Calabrese, and great-grandchildren Jane, Vinny, Ben, Dominic, and Joey; youngest son Lewis Calabrese, daughter-in-law, Linnea, and grandsons Frank Calabrese II and Nicholas Calabrese; siblings Anna Anderson, Carl Calabrese, and Josephine DeVivo. In 1973, Frank founded FCL Graphics, named after his sons: Frank, Carmen, and Lewis. Over the next 31 years, he expanded it from a commercial printing shop into a powerhouse offering direct mail, web, and marketing services. In 2004, after more than three decades of growth and innovation, Frank sold the business, cementing his legacy as a pioneer in the printing industry and marking the end of an era for FCL Graphics.

Beyond business, Frank was a devoted racehorse owner and passionate bettor, establishing FCC Stables and breeding numerous champions. In 2006, his horse Dreaming of Anna captured the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, marking a pinnacle in his racing career. Frank’s horses enjoyed an impressive winning streak at Arlington Park Racecourse from 2000 to 2010.

Frank’s hobbies reflected his zest for life-he had a soft spot for the thrill of slot machines, enjoying many nights at the casino. Known also for his cleanliness, he valued a well-kept home and workplace, insisting that every detail be just right.
