Double Diamond Farm in Ocala, Florida announced on their Facebook page today the passing of Florida-bred graded stakes-winner and Florida stallion Bahamian Squall.
A homebred for Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association Hall of Fame member Donald R. Dizney, Bahamian Squall won the Grade 2 Smile Sprint Handicap in 2013 and was second in that year’s Grade 1 Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap. He retired in 2015 with five wins, six seconds and four thirds in 25 starts and earnings of $582,920.
Foaled in 2009, Bahamian Squall was by Gone West out of Midway Squall, by Storm Bird. He began his stallion career in 2016, was the state’s second leading freshman sire in 2019 and was perennially ranked in the top 10 among Florida stallions. Bahamian Squall’s top runner was multiple graded stakes-winning Florida-bred Spirit Wind, an earner of $747,015 and the 2024 Florida-bred Champion Older Female.
He has produced seven crops of racing age with 60 winners from 95 starters and progeny earnings of $5,485,984.
