Florida-breds continued their success at the highest levels of Thoroughbred racing during the month of September with 10 open stakes winners, topped by Liam’s Law’s victory in the Grade 3 With Anticipation at Saratoga Race Course on September 5. Those 10 stakes victories by Florida-breds came at nine different tracks throughout North America and produced earnings of $766,722.
According to statistics provided by The Jockey Club Information systems, Florida-breds have won 57 open stakes and 14 graded stakes year-to-date through September 30. The total open stakes victory numbers nearly triple the next regional market with Ontario-breds winning 20 open stakes this year and New York-breds accounting for 19 open stakes wins in 2026. Maryland-breds have scored in 14 open stakes while Pennyslvannia accounts for 12 and California 11.
Ranking behind Florida’s 14 graded stakes winners through September 30 is Ontario with nine, New York with six and Maryland with five. Pennsylvania and California Thoroughbred breeders have two graded stakes winners each to their credit.
Also during September alone, 30 Florida-breds finished in the top three against open stakes company, five of which came in graded stakes. Total earnings produced by Florida-bred stakes horses that finished in the top three in September account for more than $1.2 million in earnings.
