Gary Barber and D J Stable LLC’s Sugar Treat will graduate to graded stakes competition Thursday as the Florida-bred filly is set for the Grade 3 Schuylerville on opening day of the Saratoga Race Course season. The $175,000 Schuylerville has attracted a field of 11 2-year-old fillies who will go six furlongs on the main track.

Sugar Treat will be making her second career start in the Schuylerville after winning her debut by a half-length going five furlongs on the Gulfstream Park synthetic course on June 10. That day she came from off the pace to catch 6-5 favorite Escape Room, who won her next out against special weight maidens by three-and-a-quarter lengths going five furlongs on the all weather track at Gulfstream on July 7.

Sugar Treat is by Enticed out of Brown Glaze by War Front and is a half-sister to graded stakes-placed runners Bet on Mookie, by Uncaptured; and Absolute Grit, by Kantharos. Sugar Treat was purchased by D J Stable for $120,000 out of the Ocala Stud consignment at this year’s Ocala Breeders’ Sale March Sale.

Bred by Ocala Stud, Sugar Treat earned $24,000 plus $10,000 from the FTBOA Florida-bred Incentive Fund in her lone start.

Sugar Treat is listed at 6-1 on the morning line and has drawn the outside post 11. She has jockey Flavien Prat named to ride and will try to become the ninth Florida-bred winner of the Schuylerville and the first since Catherinethegreat in 2018.

Among the likely favorites is Wine On Tap from the barn of trainer Todd Pletcher.

The gray or roan daughter of Tapit also won her only career start when she defeated special weight maidens by three lengths going five furlongs at Belmont Park on June 18.

Wine On Tap is out of Princess La Quinta, by Quality Road and was a $600,000 purchase by Alistair Roden Bloodstock out of the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment at the 2022 Keeneland September Sale. Princess La Quinta won the Grade 3 Arlington Maton and is a half-sister to stakes-placed runners Winsome Charm and Overdeliver. She has one other named foal, Rapacious, an unraced 3-year-old colt by Into Mischief.

Wine On Tap is owned by MKW racing and will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. She has drawn post seven and is the 5-2 morning line favorite.

Traveling to Saratoga from Parx is Carmelina, who is trained by Robert E. Reid Jr. for Cash in King LLC and LC Racing LLC.

Labeled at 5-1 in the program, Carmelina exits a five-and-three-quarter-length victory in a four-and-a-half-furlong maiden special weight at Parx on June 18.

A $44,000 purchase by Charles J. Zacney out of the 2021 Fasig Tipton Mixed December Sale where she was consigned by Gracie Bloodstock, Carmelina is from the first crop by Maximus Mischief out of the stakes-winning mare Complete St., by St Averill.

She earned $37,000 in her lone start and will get Jose Oritz as her jockey Thursday and they will break from post one.

Trainer D. Wayne Lukas will saddle Saratoga Secret for the Schuylerville and she is the 4-1 second choice on the morning line.

The gray or roan daughter is by Arrogate out of unraced Fort Larned mare Sister and won her debut by three lengths going five-and-a-half furlongs at Ellis Park on June 23 when she earned $69,000 for owner BC Stables LLC.

Saratoga Secret was a $200,000 selection by John Napoli at the 2022 Fasig Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale where she was consigned by Mulholland Springs.

She will be ridden from post five by Luis Saez.

Others set for the Schuylerville are Becky’s Joker, who will be ridden by Javier Castellano; Union Suit with Manny Franco up, Status Streeker and jockey Joel Rosario, Tyler Gaffalione has the mount on Closing Act, Kiss for Luck with Kendrick Carmouche aboard, Dancing Diana will be ridden by John Velazquez and Jose Gomez will ride Mila Juna.
