Roll On Big Joe, a four-length winner of the Grade 3 Palos Verdes at Santa Anita Saturday, was credited with a 102 Beyer Speed Figure while producing his first career stakes victory. Trained by Bob Hess Jr. for Tim Cohen’s Rancho Temescal LLC, David Marabella’s White Fence LLC and Richard Hale Jr., Roll On Big Joe covered six furlongs in 1:08.60.

 

It was the second consecutive win for Roll On Big Joe, who took a second-level, $80,000 optional claiming going six-and-a-half furlongs at Santa Anita on Jan. 3.

Jockey Umberto Rispoli has been aboard the 5-year-old gelding for all of his past five races going back to a second-place finish to Straight No Chaser in the Grade 2 Santa Anita Sprint Championship at six furlongs on Sept. 29.

Roll On Big Joe is by Prospective out of Nina’s Gift, by Victory Gallop and was bred in Florida by Max Ubide. Rancho Temescal purchased him at Ocala Breeders’ Sales for $90,000 out of the Gayle Woods consignment at the 2022 June Sale.

He has since earned $298,580 from five wins, five seconds and a third in 15 career starts. 

The 102 Beyer Speed figure is among the top seven nationally this year at distances up to a mile according to Daily Racing Form.
