Robert Cotran’s Rezasrolex rolled to his eighth consecutive victory Friday at Gulfstream, winning a first condition, $25,000 optional claiming by neck ahead of Poseidon’s Law in second with Front End third. Extending a win streak that goes back to a two-and-three-quarter-length score in a $25,000 optional claiming, $16,000 starter allowance in June of last year, the 4-year-old Florida-bred gelding improved his career record to 12 wins in 15 starts with two seconds. He is five-for-five this year.
Ridden by Edgard Zayas, who has been aboard for seven of the eight races, Rezasrolex set the pace along the rail after breaking from post four. He led Send Cash by a length through fractions of :21.01 and :43.29 before holding off Poseidon’s Law, who made up nearly two lengths in the last sixteenth.
Rezasrolex finished five furlongs on the turf in :54.61 and paid $4.60 as the 6-5 favorite.
Trained by Joseph Orseno, Rezasrolex won his previous seven while sprinting over the all-weather course at Gulfstream. His last three and four total during the span came at five-and-a-half furlongs on synthetic while three have been at five furlongs on the all-weather course. This was his first start on grass since winning a maiden special weight going a mile on the turf at Belterra Park in his second career start on Sept. 23, 2023.
“Today was the turf test. He’s by Bucchero. He’s a stallion I love. I knew he’d turf. He’d run one time [on turf] at Belterra with a 40 Beyer. It’s apples and oranges,” Orseno said. “The horse is doing great. He’s keeping himself together. I stop when it’s time to stop on him. I’ve given him time off before. He’ s doing great.”
He has also won 10 of last 11 starts going back to March of 2024, with his only loss coming when fifth in a first condition $50,000 optional claiming going a mile-and-70-yards in February of 2024.
Orseno and Cotran claimed Rezasrolex for $16,000 out of a winning effort against first condition optional claimers going a mile-and-70-yards on the synthetic course on Dec. 7, 2023.
Rezasrolex broke his maiden in the race just prior to the claim against maiden special weight company going a mile on the turf at Belterra Park on Sept. 23, 2023.
Rezasrolex is out of Sister Charlie, by Indian Charlie and was bred in Florida by Scott Hebertson. He has career earnings of $281,288.
“We’re going to have to figure out his next step. Now he’s a two-other-than. There’s some stakes coming up,” Orseno said. “He’s just a neat horse and we’re keeping him happy.”
