The connections behind Tami Bobo’s Reminder are hoping an improved trip in Saturday’s $125,000 Dania Beach results in the first stakes victory for the Florida-bred colt, who encountered difficult racing luck last out in the $100,000 Pulpit. Reminder is labeled at 6-1 on the morning line for the Dania Beach which features a field of 10 3-year-olds who will go one mile on the Gulfstream Park turf.
Reminder and jockey Edgard Zayas were a fast closing second, just a neck short of winner Noted, in the seven-and-a-half-furlong Pulpit after being shuffled back at the start and boxed in around the far turn of the Dec. 9 test on the grass.
After breaking his maiden on the Gulfstream synthetic course in his third career start in September, Reminder finished third behind winner Freedom Principle in the $65,000 Armed Forces going a mile-and-70-yards on the Gulfstream all-weather track on Nov. 4 before switching to the turf for the first time in the Pulpit.
Bred in Florida by Courtney Meagher, Reminder has one win in five starts with a second and three thirds and earnings of $78,444.
By Audible out of Mom’s Deputy, by War Chant, Reminder was purchased at the 2023 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Spring Sale for $185,000 by First Finds, who selected him out of the de Meric Sales consignment. That was the second time First Finds had purchased the bay colt at OBS as they also bought him for $100,000 out of the Beth Bayer consignment at the 2022 Winter Mixed Sale. He sold for $200,000 to de Meric Sales later in 2022 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale.
Reminder has post five in the Dania Beach and Zayas gets the return mount.
Agate Beach appears to be the horse to beat in the Dania Beach as the Todd Pletcher-trained son of Quality Road exits a strong fifth-place finish in the Grade 1 Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Santa Anita on Nov. 3 when just two-and-a-half lengths behind winner Unquestionable (Fr).
Already a graded stakes-winner of the Grade 2 Pilgrim at a mile-and-a-sixteenth on the Aqueduct turf during the Belmont at Big A meet, Agate Road sports a ledger of two wins in four starts with one second and earnings of $218,750.
He is owned by St. Elias Stable and Repole Stables and Irad Ortiz Jr. will ride the 8-5 morning line favorite from post 10.
Also exiting the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf is Air Recruit, who finished seventh after setting the pace in the mile affair.
Trained by Arnaud Delacour for Mark B. Grier, Air Recruit won the $150,000 Laurel Futurity on the turf on Sept. 30 and was third to No Nay Mets (Ire) in the $131,000 Rosies sprinting on the Colonial Downs turf in September.
Air Recruit has won half of his four starts with a third with earnings of $149,750 and jockey Junior Alvarado will guide him from post six.
Also set for the Dania Beach are Wine Collector with Miguel Vasquez named to ride, Typhoon Fury and jockey Luis Saez, Tyler Gaffalione rides Depiction, Tocayo has Jorge Ruiz up, Palm Tree with rider Jose Ortiz, Edgartown will be ridden by Oisin Murphy and Frontline Warrior will have John Velazquez in the irons.
