While they have only three races between them, Florida-breds Global Steve and Right Wing Runner take their unblemished records into the $75,000 Parx Future Stars at Parx Racing Monday, a seven-furlong test for 2-year-olds. Cash is King and LC Racing’s Global Steve is the second choice on the morning line at 4-1 while Right Wing Runner is 5-1 in the program for owner Richard Malouf.
Global Steve was a notable winner of a seven-furlong maiden special weight at Parx on Nov. 25 in his lone start, a race in which he circled the leaders while four-wide on the turn before drawing off in the stretch to win by six-and-a-half lengths under Mychel Sanchez.
The chestnut colt has trained well since for trainer Robert Reid Jr., having breezed over a muddy four furlongs in :48.33 on Dec. 18 at Parx, the third best work at the distance that morning.
A $60,000 purchase by his current owners out of the Two Oaks Equine consignment at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Sale earlier this year, Global Steve has earned $30,000 in his lone start. He is out of Arosefor Isabelle, by Hard Spun, making him a half-brother to stakes-winning Florida-bred Cagliostro, and was bred in Florida by Lance Colwell.
Sanchez returns to ride Global Steve from post seven in the field of 10.
Right Wing Runner hails from the barn of trainer Scott Lake and is undefeated in two starts.
He won his first career race by three-quarters of a length when facing special weight maidens over five-and-a-half furlongs in September then won a first condition, $75,000 optional claiming by nearly three lengths going six furlongs over a muddy and sealed track on Nov. 26, both at Parx.
Right Wing Runner is another who comes into the Parx Future Stars off a solid morning effort after working four furlongs in :47.97, the second fastest of 94 works at the distance on Dec. 18, the same day Global Steve put in his above-mentioned breeze.
Right Wing Runner has earned $60,000 in his two victories after being purchased by Malouf for $75,000 out of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales March Sale where he was consigned by Rubin Sanchez’s Really and Truly Thoroughbreds. Sanchez bought him for $10,000 out of the 2023 OBS October Yearling Sale where he was consigned by Thoroughstock.
By Preservationist out of Silver Lantana, by Badge of Silver, Right Wing Runner was bred in Florida by Norman Dellheim and Katie Leibe.
Frankie Pennington, who has ridden Right Wing Runner in his previous two starts, gets the return mount and they will break from post two.
Favored on the morning line at 7-2 is Crab Daddy, winner of the $100,000 Pennsylvania Nursery by nearly four lengths going seven furlongs on Nov. 27.
A Brian C. Schartz homebred, Crab Daddy is trained by Linda Albert and is one-for-two after finishing second to Bjorn in a $45,000 maiden claiming going seven furlongs at Laurel Park on Nov. 9. The gelded son of Uncle Lino has earned $68,200 in his two starts.
Crab Daddy will again be ridden for the first time by Ismerio Villalobos from post 10.
Rounding out the field are Robert’s Moon, who will be ridden by Jorge Vargas Jr.; Baby Dukes and jockey Abner Adorno, Fire Pit has Kendrick Carmouche named to ride, Gun Trader will have Francisco Martinez in the irons, Mission First and pilot Silvestre Gonzalez, Alchemism will have Eliseo Ruiz in the saddle and Fernando Jara will ride National Law.
