Undefeated Florida-bred Hades turned back Eclipse Award-winning champion Fierceness and five others to take the G3 Holy Bull Stakes on Feb. 3 at Gulfstream Park. The performance secured the gelding’s No. 5 ranking in the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s poll of top three-year-olds this week. The poll is a leading indicator of horses to watch for the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby. Undefeated Nysos jumped into the No. 1 spot.

Bred by Ocala Stud, Joseph M. O’Farrell III, David O’Farrell, et al, Hades campaigns for D.J. Stable LLC and Robert Coltran. The gelding is trained by Joseph F. Orseno. Consigned by Ocala Stud, Hades sold out of the Ocala Breeders Sales April catalog for $130,000. Hades is by Awesome Slew out of The Shady Lady by Quality Road and has impressively won three races since breaking his maiden at Gulfstream Park on Dec. 9, 2023.

Florida-bred Speed Boat Beach is No. 9 on the Top Thoroughbred poll since his G1 Malibu win on Dec. 26.

The poll covers racing performances through Feb. 4. Voting is conducted by national media. The three-year-old poll represents horses competing up and through the Triple Crown.

Rankings on the poll are on a 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-1 basis with first place votes in parentheses, followed by each horse’s 2024 record, and total points earned.
